Why do high powered green lasers seem so popular? Why do you like yours?

Curious, I have seen multiple threads regarding green lasers. A lot of people seem to view them as one of, if not the most, desireable colors. Can anyone "shed some light" on the subject? What is it about them that makes people want one more then a red or violet, the exoticness of the color? The commonness of the red or violet lasers, burning potential (i.e. more substances absorbing the light better) do they show up more to you at night? etc. Why do YOU like green lasers?

I really like my greens for their beam diameter, my red and violets are cool and all but require focusing to burn, while the naturally thin beam of my DPSS greens is ready to go. Also, with our eyes heighten sensitivity to green, it makes then so much brighter than any other of my lasers, and who doesn't like a powerful laser, even if it mostly show :p

Just look at my avatar, thats one sweet beam

Beam visibility combined with great burning capabilities.
Red has good burning but very low visibility
Violet has GREAT burning but also low visibility.

The green beam is more visible than the red or violet beam.

Everyone want a lightsaber, don't they?

Peace,
dave

Yeah, the biggest reason would have to be the beam (diameter, visiblity). The wavelength is why our eyes can more easily see the beam itself, right?

I may want to get another color in the near future for fun, but likely I'll have to use fog or smoke (or cat dander:thinking:) to make the beam visible. I'm not really into this to burn things, though that is my next experiment!

i would think it's mostly due to viability..

though it's not that uncommon anymore for the "exoticness" factor to be the reason for it's popularity.. at that point.. the blue and yellow lasers would take it.

Green is my second favorite color while blue is my favorite. The human eye is the most sensitive to green, making it the most impressive beam shot wise.

The beam diameter of the green laser is only thinner because of the lens I believe and is why I don't like the focusable lenses so much. I wish there were better ones in place of the aixiz so I can have a thin beam of bluray light

There are....

hmm well the general consensus is obviously beam visibility. I see a lot more red and violet diodes cheap, so obviously a green costs more, but is worth the price. Looks like I will be starting out with a red as my first, then a violet or green as my second. I definitely plan on having more then one high powered laser, but then I suspect this is quite normal for people who come across this potential hobby. Thanks for sharing everyone.
