Greetings,

Which type of laser is the most efficient?

That is, which converts the largest percentage of power input to laser beam light?

Thanks

Some high power IR diodes are pretty efficient.
For example, the 2W 808 I have sitting here takes ~2.2V and above threshold, power output increases almost linearly with current up to ~2.5W.

I know that some violet laser diodes with the right lense will put out more mW pre mA input

You don't calculate efficiency with mW per Ma.
It is Mw per Mw. Power in versus power out.

CO2 lasers can be up to 25-30%.
Some commercial diodes can be up to 60%.
I read some in the lab are up to 76% with a goal of 80%
All these are in the IR range though.

Also keep in mind the driver efficiency!
Here is the source I got the info from.

Yes...
An 808nm pump will output ~1.0W with 2.2W in (almost 50%).
A 445nm from the projectors will output ~1.0W with 4.0W in (about 25%).
