I orderd a green laser pointer from ebay to "not find" the 03 chip and the small screw to adjust was messed up, I really want to find a website that sells green lasers that are hackable in the sense of the main green laser hack video on the net, pleae send some links along I need to buy a number of them and i need them to have the 03 chip, or can someone tell me what the chip might say instead of 03??

If you mean this video: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/497525/how_to_make_a_burning_laser_save_100s_of/

I believe many of us decided it was either a farce (he switched diodes), or that he disabled the current limit chip, meaning the laser would indeed light matches for a few minutes, then burn itself up. Without current limiting, a laser diode without active cooling would be toast.

Sorry I don't know what lasers to try, but DX has a 20mW for $17 that might be worth having, even if you aren't able to mod it.

I believe some have lit matches with their 50mW version for $26 too. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2390

Good luck!

modding a low power green laser for higher outputs is a bad idea - the laser will die quickly (minutes, hours, days if you're lucky). it's best to buy a laser designed for high power, if that's what you want. nova lasers, optotronics, and laser glow are good reputable high powered laser companies you may want to check :) also as Shilood said, dealextreme isn't too bad, much cheaper lasers but they're also built cheaply so may not last very long. it's also been said that the dealextreme ones above 50mW emit quite a bit of IR.
