Hi Wolfram,
Actually Chinese New year celebration begins on Sunday February 14th this year, most companies will be closed beginning 2-3 days before this and all of next week.
I work closely with 6 companies in China and a couple more in Singapore and all of them are closing either this thursday or Friday and all are coming back to work on the 22nd; so it really not that long a holiday break, just 6-7 business days and most of them work a couple of saturdays both before and after the holiday to make up for it.

It's not a month long holiday as someone here mentioned, just a little more than a week.
