Hey all,

I was wondering, is it a wise idea to use Binoculars as a lens to put a laser through?

Will this harm the binoculars in any way?

Thanks,

Yes,  it will ruin the binoculars instantaneously, don't do it!   The glass lenses on binoculars are neither flexible nor self healing, so when the laser impacts the glass, it will shatter!  I repeat, SHATTER!  Or at the very least, scratch, it.

Now, on the other hand,  laser BEAMS are ok.  Beams should pass right through.   That's my guess anyway.

It will harm them in the same way that looking at the sun through them will.

You can use them as beam expanders to get better divergence or for long distance burning :p
