I wanted a clean, elegant manageable laser for actual pointing use. Battery life, portability and divergence were the main design parameters. So I went with the PL450B in a really nice stainless steel AAA host. This is the smallest host I have found at only a few mm larger than a AAA battery. The host is basically a stainless cylinder that is threaded on the inside; coincidentally the host has internal threads that exactly match the external thread of an Aixiz module!!

So I ordered a copper 3.8mm module and took a few mm off the unthreaded portion of the module until it would fit in the host. When the diode arrived I took an old flexdrive I had lying around and soldered it all together. I used a current of 160ma for good battery life.

The whole thing came together really nicely, thanks for looking. Beam shots to come later.

Pointing use? I guess you mean outside and not on a white board...you'll have around 150 mW there! ;) Ahh the elusive flex :) Nice build

Cool little build. The little ones are some of my favorites.

Grainde - It should be less than 100mW unless it is a real efficient diode. I think mine is set around 150mA and it puts out about 80mW.

Ah maybe, I was going to say around 120 mW, but raised it a little just in case. Mine is set at 210 mA and gives 190 mW... ;) Its still more than 5 mW though!:na:

Wow, nice job!

It's indeed very lovely to have the threads screw in perfectly.

Cheers!

Great build! I like the small compact ones. They tend to be the grab and go of choice.
What host is that and where did you get it? I think I might need one of these

Thanks!

This is the link to the host

I have to say this is is my favorite build so far, even more than my 1.5W 445.
