Hey all....

I just had an interesting idea a day or so ago;

From my understanding, the way DPSS systems work is with two sets of crystals, KTP and YVO4. They are specifically coated to reflect and transmit certain wavelengths, allowing lasing to happen in between each crystal. As it lases in the crystals, the wavelength changes inside combining or changing the frequency of the photons.

I understand that some crystals come uncoated, allowing you to sort of "customize" what color you get from the output...

Which made me think. Would it be feasible to get a pair of uncoated crystals with "adjustable" mirrors in between each crystal; each mirror has a different coating on it allowing you to "flip" between each one for a different color output depending on what combination of coatings you choose.

Obviously, it would be rather complicated to put together, but it's an idea. I like having to use only one IR pump diode though, that's nice.

What would you guys think? :p

i don't think that would work from what understand differnt dpss wavelengths require diffrent wavelengths for pump diodes correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure all DPSS systems start with 808nm IR diodes, so that wouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, lman, you're wrong. They almost all require 808nm laser diodes. Le Quack, it's an interesting idea. The only problem is the amount of precision required for these. For any mechanical parts that would switch out mirrors, an incredibly high amount of precision would be required. Further, you would only be able to do SHG (frequency doubling) and not frequency summation or anything complex like that.
