Okay so I have a 110 dollar budget here. I want either: a 150mw green pen style laser, or a 1W blue laser. nova lasers website is broken, and laserbtb doesn't have the crystals to make the green. I'd like any advice of possible, thank you guys :)

just so you know if u intend to buy a pen laser with 150mW of power dont expect long runtimes at all.. u kinda miss the fun having that much in a small penhost without able to focus or use it long... waste of money imo

What you think may be a waste of money might not be for someone else. That's what makes the people in this hobby so fun, you always have new people joining & each has something they like and don't

Well just trying to help get those new, for a pen you dont really need more then 50mW or so, for a point and shoot its enough for a visible beam, if u want able to focus and get most out of a laser then i still think its a waste having that much in a pen, for 1 the duty cycle is absolute crap, and 2 u cant focus the damn things :(

Sorry about your dislike, but I like pen lasers for their compact size! Also, I ordered an optotronics 150mW green pen laser so :D

You can focus them using my pen tutorial. I just lit a black colored stick match with a 45mW 532nm;) There are at least 20 members out there owning ones I've made with either 650nm, 532nm or 405nm. This applies strictly to the $5 pens I recommend as I have not opened my "professional" type ones to try it.

Im new and lost also where can I get a 50mw green laser module that I know will not be lost to customs every time i talk to cust service from companys in hong kong or china they say yhey deliver Whats a man to do?:can::tinfoil::crackup::whistle::thinking: help me petereconomakis@comcast.net or GSS :tinfoil::can::cryyy::D:tired::wave:
Did you want a 50mW 532 module or a laser? Those are quite different. A module is only the housing of the DPSS part of the laser. You'll need to get a host, batteries etc...

I think you are confusing technology terminology.

What do YOU call these then:
http://www.edmundoptics.com/lasers/laser-diode-modules/ and Laser Modules - Laser Components USA, Inc. and https://www.thorlabs.com/newgrouppage9.cfm?objectgroup_id=1487 and same items on thousands of other sites and in literature?

Yes you can trust them. There's no problem with importing laser parts, only complete lasers and then only if they are battery powered.

thats what i wanted to hear! Boy does it get dizzying looking at all the sites but i am new to this Im going to look at lilly electronics site and if you can help with mabey 2 more sites for modules that would be great Thx :tired::undecided::thanks:
If you're looking for a 532nm module, I'll let someone else answer, I prefer 520nm over 532nm, 532nm are DPSS and break easy and are temprature sensitive etc. but you can buy them cheap. There are some on Amazon and eBay but I don't know what to recommend. AixiZ is one of the places many of us buy from www.aixiz.net but not much there in 532nm. For 520nm I would buy from DTR https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf/ or his shop on Amazon Amazon.com At a Glance: DTR's Laser Shop

I see you are in Massachusetts, you should add that to your profile so it shows under your name, more people will answer questions, especially if you ask where to buy something.

DPSS is "diode pumped solid state" they are a more complex design that uses an IR pump diode. Yes 532nm and 520nm are almost the same color, you have to view them side by side to see a difference. The 532nm is supposed to be something like 12% brighter but it's not much difference, the one I built is only 82mW and it has a visible beam.

I think we are thread jacking here, this should be moved to another thread or PMs.

If you're making a Star Trek phaser you should look at what that guy in LA did with the incredible phaser collection he built. Shadow six that's his name, I'll look him up and find those threads. Ok found them, you will enjoy looking at these:

What PI said plus Jayrob has a kit for a Star Trek Phaser (I own one). It's pretty expensive though.
If you want cheap 532nm modules for experimenting I would buy the 3V and 5V modules from Fasttech. They may say 5mW but are WAY overspec and have an average around what you are looking for but can be adjusted higher. I prefer the 5V rated ones as they operate the same as the 3V ones but can take up to 5V (just get rid of the extra as heat). Here's a link:

Honestly, I'm confusing it too. I know those are called laser modules, but I have also seen these being called modules as well...http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41BY0PLTnpL.jpg And they are the housings of the diode and the driver.
Can anyone give a brief explanation? :anyone:
