Every once in a while you find a host that while you are building you think to yourself, "man I wish they were all like this":D.

I used the Fasttech pic as I failed to get one before I gutted it:whistle::p. I linked the pic so just click it.

I was shopping for a host that used the 26650 battery. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that this will aslo take a 32650 D sized cell:wave:. I wasn't at all sure what I was going to use:undecided: maybe the new 5W red:thinking:. When I received it in the mail and opened it I knew that this was going to be a 405nm 12x as powerful as I could get it.:eg:

I started out making the sink. I wanted to get that diode wrapped in as much aluminum as possible and for some reason looking down at the push button I felt as though a was going for that saber look:bowdown:I ended up puting some grooves in there as you will see later:wave:

I wiped the components off the driver board and wired up the microboost. Keeping the - from the board and wiring the + from one side of the button to the driver. There is plenty of room in this pill (anodized) for anything you want to do I used a finned heatsink on the IC and attached it to the pill with Arctic ceramic adhesive. Nice little push button on these the center is metal, the button acts as a throttle for the current.

I set the microboost to a happy, happy, happy 625mA it resulted in a whopping 848mW max... needless to say I'm very pleased:D with that. I love the smooth variable current push button on this, almost like a dimmer switch, so far it's held up.. Very stable output it never even got warm as I tested it. I used a 9mm lens for testing, great burner it smokes everthing:eg:

Here are some closing shots, the stubby in the background is up for a review as well.:shhh: I have some kinks to work out, but let me say it has some very strong kung fu;).

Some more things to mention is the bezel on the host is stainless and there are options on the tailcap for serious para-chord which I will do later, also the light in stock form has high, med, low and hold for strobe and s.o.s.

Thank you in advance for reading and get out and build will ya:thanks::beer:

+3 for you Jander, excellent work.

Could you tell us a little more about the variable current switch?

I'm not sure of the terminology, but the output current is dependent on the pressure you apply to the button. I suppose I should look it up, but I'm slap busy with in and out right now also got a bit of a headache. :(

Like that host! That heatsink compliments it very well, for a super "finished" look!

+1 Nice work! :)

Thanks fellas, I have been eager to get this unit built I think it's #1 attribute is the swappable battery.

The switch I'm sure it purely the resistance, as the current moves through the switch it bottoms out and has full contact (more surface material) thus less resistance and full current.

It was not defective as it worked before the tear down I just think that the amount of current going through it maxes out only when bottomed out or full contact. Fasttech list the switch as 2.1A for tailcap current so I'm not at all doubling the current @3.4A. I just think I'm asking to much out of it, but I also enjoy the effect?
