Today is the day.

On October 16, a well loved member of the Saint Michael-Albertville area was hospitalized in a severe four-wheeler accident. Annette Leuer was in the hospital for ten days, and she passed peacefully, with her family at her side, on October 27. On http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/annetteleuer, a site to update the public on her condition, their family kept a journal. Here are a few entries, leading up to her death:

Annette is in an induced coma right now. During the accident Annette was without oxygen. Doctors are waiting for swelling in her brain to decrease before they can really assess how severe her head injuries are. Please say a prayer for Annette and her family. Thank you also for your continued messages of encouragement and support.

Hello Everyone, Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. We are making small steps in a very long journey. Annette is responding a little to voices and opening her eyes to people when they come and we introduce her to them. Father Gregory visited this morning, and Carl and Donnie came too. Please continue to pray for her and her family.

As we write this morning, we wish we could tell you things are better - however, we don't want to give anyone false hope. The fact is that Annette is really struggling through this tough time. During the night and this morning, her blood pressure and heart rate rose to alarming levels and the doctor tells us this is a neurological reaction. They told us when Annette was admitted that this would be the toughest day. Please continue to pray for a miracle. Many friends have asked if they could come and visit. If you come we cannot promise that you'll be able to see her, but we will try our best to get you in. The nurse yesterday mentioned that it is good for friends to come for short periods. Keep praying - keep believing! God bless you all. John and Lynn

Annette was diagnosed with a collapsed lung this morning and a chest tube was inserted. She's now resting comfortably. When we walked into her room this morning, her dad had written on the board "Today is the day!" We're now referring to this saying as Annette's slogan :) She's scheduled for another CAT scan on Thursday and we are hoping for improvement!

Thank you to everyone - the prayers are helping! Remember TODAY IS THE DAY!!!! :)

TODAY'S THE DAY. Today is another day we're praying for a miracle. Annette rested comfortably last night and Dad read the book to her called "The Be Happy Attitudes." (This was a book Annette had found while cleaning out a cupboard, just prior to the accident.) She thought it looked good and started reading it - Dad finished reading it to her very early this morning.

Annette had a great night. She rested peacefully and her vitals remained constant. We know she is not "out of the woods" yet; however, she is demonstrating that true "Annette spirit" that we all know she has. She is not giving up and neither are we! We prayed prayers of thanksgiving last night with Father Gregory that she was able to come off of the ventilator comfortably. We continue to pray for the miracle of healing. Today's the day!

Today's the day. Annette's condition is the same. No worse - no better. How about if everyone makes a point to do something fun today? Annette would like that. God bless you all.

At approximately 8:15 tonight, God granted us a miracle and called Annette back to heaven. She passed away peacefully with her family at her side. Please pray for her tonight. Thank you for all of your support, love and prayers. God bless. Today's the day.

Our family would like to take time to thank everyone - the EMTs and staff of North Memorial, our family and friends, our community, our children's friends, the people who prayed for Annette whom we have never met, everyone who stood through the long lines to express their support, and the people who traveled great distances to pay their respects. We are especially appreciative of Frs. Gregory and Michael for their guidance and assistance. As a family, we are humbled to see such a generous outpouring of love. You will never know and we will never be able to express how each of you carried us through this time. As a family, we will go forward - Annette would want us to. We can live in the darkness of grief and sorrow or we can walk into his light of hope and faith. Every morning we make a choice. God bless all of you. The Leuer's

Today's the day.

My friend's brothers made a song in honor of her. This will be on itunes, and all proceeds will go to the Leuer family.

Re: RIP Annette Leuer

I know this is late, but I didn't think of posting this until now.

BTW: My mom works at North Memorial. I think she visited her. :'(
