Re: Hypothetical situation

Ok you're walking down the street and you see fred phelps leading a protest against a soldiers funeral with the rest of the westboro baptist church (the "god hates fags" people). You have a high power laser with you. You can shine it at them and you wont get in trouble.

Do you do it?

No.

Simply because I'd prefer the satisfaction of breaking Fred's face open with my hands.

Re: Hypothetical situation

In hindsight; complaining about a problem sometimes only makes it worse. This is probably one of those cases.

Re: Hypothetical situation

No. You would only be making the situation worse by fueling their hate. Hate cannot squelch hate. Being a Christian, it infuriates me when I see so-called Christians spouting off messages of hate. It's ignorance at its finest.

I don't know, but I'm watching a story on the Science Channel right now about the guy that introduced killer bees to the Americas.

Boy that really chaps my hide...

Re: Hypothetical situation

Whether it's Christians or Muslims spouting cry's of hate if you join them by committing violence on them you are a hater also.

Better to just take out you AR-15 and get it over with so we can all go to dinner

Killer bees! Thats the ticket!
Anyone want to help train killer bees to be lured to 980nm?

Re: Hypothetical situation

Ignore them....
Without an audience and/or participants there is no drama
and they will fade away...

Re: Hypothetical situation

This is an absolutely appalling, and utterly useless thread.

If you disagree with someone's views, inhuman as you may think those beliefs to be, do you adopt violence as a means of voicing your dissent?

This is not a hypothetical about lasers, it's a hypothetical about the ethics surrounding violence, period. It's ethically no different than asking the same question, but while replacing the high powered laser with "tossing a glass bottle into the crowd", or "throwing a stone".

It's a dumb hypo, and a dumb conversation. What kind of answers do we seriously expect to such a question? You're asking "would you harm someone you disagreed with, if you wouldn't get caught?". If you're the type of person that responds to views you disagree with using violence, then so be it, but that has nothing to do with lasers, and everything to do with your own lack of human evolution.

This is absolutely the type of thread that should be locked and deleted from this site - for everyone's good.

Re: Hypothetical situation

You do realize you're saying that you don't agree with the conversation so the thread should be locked right? According to you not agreeing with someone is not grounds for trying to silence them. Honestly I don't care if the thread gets locked but just take it easy and don't get so worked up over a thread on the internet.

PS= Notice how I asked people if they would. I never said blind them in fact other people were the ones who brought up "other means".

PSS-
What xoul said is true though. The WBC only has something like 75 members but everyone knows who they are because even bad publicity is publicity. Best not to give them the time of day. But that doesn't chance the fact that they're scum bags.

You know what you're right, LPF isn't the place for a discussion of this sort. Someone delete it.

I don't really want to get into a debate as I think it's pointless, and this was more of a lighthearted thread that would have done better in the Off Topic section...

That said, you do realize that historically violence has been the most popular and effective means of voicing dissent and encouraging change?
