Hello all, first time laser guy here and I have heard some great things about the spyder 3 arctic laser. I have a couple questions though which I couldn't find the answer to on the forums.

The reason why I want the Spyder 3 is simply for the extra lens you get which you can make cool patterns with. I'm wondering though, how high up in the air will this laser shine?

Before you ask, no I will not be pointing them at planes because I'm not a moron, I just want to shine the patterns into the sky on a black night and see how awesome it will look.

Also I was wondering because I'd quite like to make my own lens of shapes like ufos and other things.

I'm not sure how the image is projected though. Another thing is does anyone know for absolute certainty if these lasers will make it into England? Apparently they're legal so I don't see why not.

Thanks for any guidance / tips.

You wont see dots on sky, cause sky is not a wall. You might see many tiny beams in air - each for every dot .. but that's all.
Usually it's not possible to create custom images. Such laser gratings are made by creating very fine structure on glass, it's not doable at home. The main beam is bended into different direction by interference.
If you want solid laser, get one from forum members, or get parts and build one, if you are at least a bit into electronics. It will be cheaper, more powerful, and more reliable. On the other hand you might have troubles mounting those gratings on it. We here don't like Wicked Lasers at all, and we discourage anyone from buying there. But if their lasers have some good point, it's the mount a supply for different optics.

I don't think you get the extra lens anymore when you buy one now ano 2013.

You would have to buy a seperate box wich contains allot of lenses wich costs about $50

I don't think you would have any problems with customs shipping to the UK

This is what you can do with those lenses ^^

Doesn't have smartswitch do, wich is cool ;)

But it's cheaper yes.... durabillity i don't know, not much reviews around.
This laser gutted, not much info around also.

Funny thing is, when someone starts a topic about buying a lazerer rifle.. people also say to buy from this forum first...
And when someone wants to buy a WL, they say to buy the rifle.
I don't get it...

That rifle laser looks perfect, just what I'm looking for. The only thing is it's blue, I want green because apparently green is the brightest and picked up best by the eyes.

I want my laser to be literally noticable to anyone who so happens to look up at the sky.

Here are two 445 blues that you can buy for a lot less than a WL Arctic. The first one is available in what they call 1000mw(really 1000 to 1300mw) and a 2000mw model and (really 1500+). The second type is called a 1000mw but they say is really 1200-1500mw--both are at very reasonable prices. Just a couple of lower cost thoughts.
1. Aliexpress.com : Buy oxlasers OX BX5 445nm 1.2w/1200mw burning focusable blue laser pointer (5 star caps) with safety glasses+Free Shipping from Reliable blue laser pointer 1000mw suppliers on OXLasers's Online Official Flagship Store
2. Aliexpress.com : Buy 445nm 1w/1000mw metal cased 5in1 burning focusable blue laser pointer (5 star caps) with free safety glasses+Free Shipping from Reliable blue laser 1000mw suppliers on OXLasers's Online Official Flagship Store

They also have a pretty nice low cost 532nm, 500mw(really 400mw to 420mw) green but not with 5 effect caps Aliexpress.com : Buy OXLasers OX Gx7 high power 500mW focusable burning green laser pointer fat Beam extream bright and powerful EMS FREE SHIPPING from Reliable laser green suppliers on OXLasers's Online Official Flagship Store

If you really want a WL S3 with lens kit either 445nm blue Arctic or 532nm green Krypton go for it but is going to cost lot more than any of the above. The high power Krypton 750+ is $999.95 plus lens kit and shipping---even the 500+mw is $799.95 + lens kit and shipping.

Have you considered JetLasers PL-E --pretty much best in the business quality, reasonable prices, focusable, + outstanding customer service? http://jetlasers.org/

I think this person wants a 532nm build instead of a copy 445nm

Why don't you go and buy it and get us a review, it's just as unsave.

Some great lasers there with great reviews and very reasonble on price, but why are green lasers SO much more expensive than blue ones? Will a blue laser be really really visable at night? At distance?

No they are just cheap.
Simply put, and can't match green at distance

Wich comes to the question: is WL expensive...

yes they are sinds blue diodes are so comon these day's and you can get better here in output terms..

Green however........i think they are one step beyond us.

Just my 2 cents......

Was just attempting to lay out a range of choices that are OK examples of what is out there, as the chappy said he was a 1st time laser guy

Yes seems he wants a 532nm green but at first wanted a 445 blue Arctic so I mentioned the AliExpress stuff. They are the same Chinese lower cost lasers as sold by several vendors but at better prices--I did include a included a low cost green.

If he decides more expensive 532nm --then the WL Krypton and lens kit or a JetLasers w/o lens kit are there for the buying. Certainly the resale value of either WL or JetL is much better than others

Ok I really know nothing about laser spec apart from more watt = more power and brightness right?

I just want it to be really really bright, so if I shine it up into the air people miles away will see it, I'm not sure if blue a good colour for that even @ 1MW?

Also the green lasers don't come with lens so I'm not sure if I can buy lens to attach or something... cmon guys help me out a bit more lol.

Also at what height / distance will the laser no longer become visible?

I assume you meant 1000mw/1W as in S3 Arctic.

Here read about flashing the Space Station with a Wicked Lasers S3 Arctic 1000mw/1W . The space station at it's nearest approach was 310 miles from earth---is that far enough away for it still to be visable for you?
http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/amateur-astronomers-flash-space-station-1w-blue-laser-72271.html

532nm green is the most visable to the eye beam about 8-10X brighter than blue and dot approx 20 times brighter at same output mw power.
Green is also a different technology DPSS than blue Diode and much more expensive and complicated to make. Study up using search on the differences--here is a start http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diode-pumped_solid-state_laser and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_diode

Yes a 1000mw/1W blue is very visible however. Maybe look into a blue laser build by a forum member---there are several in the 2W+ range offered which is very bright and also very dangerous---occular damage such that you are blind forever can happen in less than 1/4 second faster than the human blink reflex with these lasers--if an accident or mistake occurs there is no time or ability for you to correct --happens too fast.
So with high output power you need goggles and you need experience to know what you are doing. You need to study up on those aspect if you are going to buy a powerful laser--they are not toys. Relatively eyesafe laser according to government regualtions are 1mw in some places and <5mw other others--so what you have been talking about is seriously more powerful.

Can you project images/pattern on clouds under the best atmospheric conditions with one--probably not powerful enoguh for that

Visibility is a multi factor thing and dependent on atmospheric condtions as much as wavelength and output power.

What is it you actually want to do or achieve in the real world?

My Jetlasers 532 780mW almost appears to stop in the air. But obviously it keeps going. I you wanting a Luxor effect like Las Vegas with the huge beam seen for miles? haha

I just want to have fun with it, I mean with lasers in general there isn't much of an objective other than to just mess around with it (safely) and I'm very well aware of the dangers which is why I will purchase glasses also.

I quite like the idea of projecting an image or a beam of light up into the sky and know that hundreds of thousands of people will see it and wonder what it is and where it's coming from.

Also I'll use it as an insta mosquito exterminator for when the summer comes around :D

I'll check on the forums but I think people are only selling the parts to make lasers? Nevertheless I'll check around. I have no problems buying a home made laser from someone trusted on the forums.

"hundreds of thousands of people" ??

Will people be able to see a beam for a mile or more around you when atmospheric conditions are optimal--probably yes if looking in the right direction. Can also attract the local authorities/constabulary who tend to confiscate same.
"UK and most of Europe are now harmonized on Class 2 (<1 mW) for General presentation use laser pointers or laser pens. Anything above 1 mW is illegal for sale in the UK (import is unrestricted). Health and Safety regulation insists on use of Class 2 anywhere the public can come in contact with indoor laser light, and the DTI have urged Trading Standards authorities to use their existing powers under the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 to remove lasers above class 2 from the general market"
see: Laser pointer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and see : HPA - Laser Pointers

You really need to look into whatever aspects you want to know about using search---lasers are a whole field of study and technologies--and govern yourself accordingly.

Nobody has enough time to be able to spoon feed you all the answers especially where an answer is a complicated question about a hypothetical situation which may or may not ever exist.

You have to actually look in the Buy, Sell ,Trade section to know there are many complete lasers built and sold by LPF members. There is some really exceptional work being done by members.
See: Buy, Sell, & Trade - Laser Pointer Forums - Laser Pointers and Laser Pointer info
Is worth a look there have been some really nice 2W+ 445nm blues sold as recently as today --hobbists rarely bulid 532nm green but sometime sell greens.

Good luck, over and out.
