Hi guys, my name is Tm.
I need help with some information and knowledge.

I have few PTZ CCTV cameras setup with around 0.0016lux sensitivity, and i need to be able to see at night at about 100-140m away, i totally agree that the IR LEDs is the way to go, but at this range i need to supply around 8-12w ( made a setup and checked ).

i am thinking on getting a 808 or 980nm 400/1000mw laser and running it at 10-90 degree angles. it would be motorized zoom and remote/auto power adjust.
10degree at 5m distance is about 0.8m circle, ill make it to never be able to make a dot, as a safety precaution for humans and animals.

right now i am in a search of options and the main thing - dont want to spend lots of money for a one time test. Laser is not the only option, but, if it works, as i think, it would be the easiest one to implement.

I dont have lasers to set up a rig and run some checks. Did anyone make such a setup and has some data on it, or is able to make one and post some videos? it would help me and others heaps.

That should be pretty easy and cheap to set up and test.

Get a To-56 diode if possible, and you could even get it in an aixiz module for tests. Heatsinks are cheap too. Just hit up someone on the forum.

As for a lens I have no idea.

Th vf for ir diodes is really low, so you could get away with an AMC 7135 setup for a driver

Good Luck :)

There are a few threads around here about similar projects; that being using ir lasers for night vision illumination. If I recall correctly, the general consensus was that a large ir flood light would work best. This is mainly because unfocussing the laser to illuminate more that a small area is not really different than a high wattage ir flood.

Use the search at bottom of the page to find these threads and check for yourself, as I may be wrong...

thanks for the replies

Ive seen the posts about using lasers fo NV. i am not sure if a laser at 10' focus has the same light intensity as an ir at 10', thats what i want to check with the setup.

NV is much more sensitive to ir light, for example, 8-12w ir light illuminates the whole fov of the NV as far as 200m-300m, and everything lights up like a day. as for cctv ull get only ~80m of good S/N ratio.

In my case, because it is a ptz setup, ill need about 4 different sets of lights at different focuses 8-12w each to flood the zone.

Since the, 5w ir bead leds are really putting out about 2.5w, ill need 2*2 or 3*3 setup. the hardest part - lens. ill have to order a special lens for it, or salvage it from binoculars or other optical devices, which is hard, and to make a few lights of the same quality and specs - mission impossible.

BTW does anyone know whats inside of IR1 Helios?

yes i can get 0.4w lasers at $50, but its still $50 for one off test with a big chance to fail.

So, before i go and spend the money, i desided to ask people that have IR lasers and a CCTV cam - can you please film the laser at a big degree dissipation at night
