For Sale: The "Sleek Steel," a Wolfman Build

IMG_5161.JPG

Up for sale here is a 12x blu-ray (405nm) build powered off of a single 18650 battery. The build itself is beautiful, and I think that the name is fitting. Besides for a single stainless steel side-clicky button, it is flawless along the whole host. The side clicky, even, fits with it. This build is reminiscent of the Hotlight kits that Moh used to sell, except quite a bit classier, in my personal opinion.

This laser is doing 500mW with an Aixiz glass lens.

Included:
- Custom-designed aluminum heatsink
- Custom-designed boost driver
- Stainless steel body
- Side-clicky for constant-on
- Complementary battery, capable of running this laser

Pictures!

I used an LM3410 based driver - yes, the same IC as the Free, Open-Source DIY driver. However, it's a custom board layout I designed and I chose my own part numbers/values and sizes to fit better on the board... so really the only thing that's the same is the IC =p

500mW is towards the upper limit of a 12x with an Aixiz 3 element lens, do you offer any guarantee one the diode?

I probably won't offer any guarantee on the diode simply because there is never any guarantee. I suppose I could offer a three-week warranty for an extra $10 or something if someone really wanted it. However, this is actually set to less than 500mA, showing the diode is pretty damn efficient. I actually metered it at around 530mW, but I figured I would advertise it at less than actual power and leave it as a surprise for those who buy ;)

Re: FS: "Sleek Steel" 500mW 405nm Build

Would it be possible to bump the power output of this beauty to levels reached by other 405 lasers? I have seen others that reach in the high 700 mW's and was wondering if this one would be able to handle that kind of power.

Re: FS: "Sleek Steel" 500mW 405nm Build

Most of those lasers use the 405-G2 lens. With an Aixiz glass lens (better divergence, less expensive), 500mW is approaching the maximum output for 405nm lasers. However, if you are interested, you could always purchase the laser and order a 405-G2 lens from DTR! He has really good prices - just $50 for a G2 or something along those lines... which is standard pricing.

The reason I didn't include a G2 on this laser is too keep the price of the laser down - would have charged $250 for it shipped if I had included a G2.

I see what you mean. I already have a 405-G2 lens, so that shouldn't be a problem.
How much power should I expect with the G2 lens installed?

Typically, I think they bump it up around 30% or so? So you should expect around 675mW (considering it actually metered at 525mW). Can't be sure though based on the cleanliness of your G2, etc. Should be at least 650mW.

Is this a single mode diode?

What is the beam diameter and divergence on this beast?

What a sexy host. Man... is it machined by yourself or what's the brand of the host?

Yes, it is a single-mode diode! I would say it's probably about 1mRad... but that's just a random guess. I would also say that it's beam diameter is probably... oh, 3mm? I could do some measurements later if you are interested.

Regarding the make of the host... no, I didn't machine it myself. I wish I did! It's MXDL though.

Single-mode, 1 mRad and 500 mW? This thing should burn like a motherf******!
Three reasons that justify buying this laser hehe.
Let me know about the exact measurements though.

Thanks!

Oh, it does burn like a beast. I accidentally burnt a hole on my sheets from across the room while taking beamshots =p

So beam diameter is 4.82mm.

I also did some crude measurements (not exact, but rough estimates). I get somewhere between 1.2 and 1.5mRad divergence.

The 405s burn better than 445s? How about 650s?

The 405s burn better than 445s? How about 650s?

It all depends on what the color of the object you are trying to burn is. Different colors absorb different wavelengths of light in such a way that sometimes a 650 is better suited for the job than a 405 or a 445 assuming they are all of the same power output and have similar beam specs.
