Hey any one have a dead Arctic three that they want to sell for cheap, or may any one know where to get a host similar. I like the battery life led display but I want to add a safety key, also like the look of the host most of all, and want to add my own internals of coerce...

Do you want a G1 or G2? If you gut it, you cannot use the battery display anymore because its incorporated into the driver.

It's actually got it's own separate control board. It just sits in a "hollow" that can only be accessed if you separate the two major body sections.

In assembly, the driver is placed into the body. Then the wiring from the driver to the LED control board is pulled out through the side. The LED unit is soldered to the wires. The control board is set into the hollow. Then the front piece of the body is pressed onto the back part of the body.

The only way to use the LED control board after repair would be to separate the pressed parts of the body, cut (or de-solder) the wires. Effect the repair. Then repeat the above assembly.

It is *possible* to use it, but you have to be able to separate and re-press the body components. Otherwise, the wires to the LED control board get cut when you remove the stock driver and the LED control board is "buried" inaccessibly inside the host.

Peace,
dave

Thanks for clearing that up Dave.

The above is what I've found with the G1.

I've got a G2 in my hands now. Unfortunately (?) it appears that the driver is still working. I probably will not get to see what the driver looks like. :( We'll see after I get a new diode installed ;)

Peace,
dave

Dam, that bites. looks like I'm back to finding cheap SMT LEDs in a cool color :)

Hey daguin, could you let me know if it is feasible in the G2? also is the repress fitting the peaces together a real bother, Or not too bad?

Thanks for the replies guys!!

From what heard its a major operation to get the thing apart. In fact I dont know if anyone has been successful in pulling one apart. Plus you'd screw the finish up. I'm sure it can probably be done, but I dont think the battery indicator would be worth the effort. But I guess that would up to the owner to decide.
