This is one of the newer advertised additions to O-Like's website. I didn't want a pen type greeny and this looked very nice so I ordered it. Two days later I was emailed a tracking number. The OLPLP50 arrived at door 13 days to the day after I order it and it came in the small nondescript package bubble wrapped very well. There were no instructions and no battery included.
O-like's OLPLP50 green laser is advertised at 40-55mw range and has a size of 3/4" dia by 3-3/4" long. It uses one CR2 battery and is advertised at 3.0 volts.
The cr2 is inserted backwards form most torches and the greenys positive is toward the back end. But do not fear there is mechanical protection in the clicky so you cannot insert the battery wrong. If you reverse polarity it simply will not complete the circuit (see photo).
I tried both 3.0V and 3.6V (3.4max or 4.2max respectively) CR2 Li-ion batteries in it and and although the specifications state that working voltage is 3.0 I opted to use my abundant juice CR2 4.2 max Li-ions instead. I do not know if this will cause premature failure of the diode but I have used it for about a week now without problems. Voltage regulation seems good. I cannot tell any difference in brightness using a fresh 3.0v (3.4max) or 3.6 (4.2max) Battery and I have used the 4.2 battery down to 3.4 volts without any noticeable dimming in brightness. Just guessing I would estimate about 40 minutes of usage before I removed the 4.2 Li-ion leaving about 3.4 volts in the battery to recharge.
As far as power is concerned I am very pleased although I have no way to measure the power I can say that it will definitely burn skin in about 2-3 seconds ouch! It will wrinkly not burn black electrical tape and will not light a darkened match. And it is very bright (see photo). There are no artifacts or reflections coming from the beam and it appears to be a perfectly round intense circle. Beam width is .040" inches or less at the Lens and appears to open up slighty at distance but not so much as to look like a Blu-Ray Ballbat. It does not have any user adjustable focus in it.
For $27US plus shipping Im tickled to death with this greeny. Its the perfect brightness in the night sky and its very small in the hand or pocket. If your looking for a inexpensive and attractive greeny to ooh and aah your friends or just to point out Berenices hair in the dark night sky. This is the greeny for you.
Pros
Rear clicky is momentary or on and is difficult to accidentally turn on in the pocket or the hand
Small and easy to hold onto feels great in the hand
Very good price
Simple and easy to insert battery reverse polarity protected.
Threads are tight and screwing in and locking the rear clicky is very positive
Cons
None that I can think of
Slightly bigger than a Blackberry
