are certain red wavelengths for reds usually more expensive than others? what red wavelength is the most visible?

thx, -Demetrius

I believe the closer that the wavelength is to 532, the more visible it will be to the human eye. Is 532nm truly the most visible wavelength to the human eye though?

555nm is the strongest for photopic vision. 650-660nm diodes are much cheaper than 635nm diodes, but 635nm is also much more visible. That's just talking about diode lasers though. Common HeNe gas lasers are ~ 633nm I think.

I thought there are 632nm HeNe lasers....could be mistaken though....

HeNe plasma lasers in their most common form emit at 632.8nm, which appears as a very slightly orangish-red.

You can also obtain orange, amber, and green HeNe lasers with only minimal difficulty.

Hey LED_Museum !  Welcome ! Nice to have you here !!!

I have noticed, that hte HeNe's are a lot brighter than any diode lasers I have - and at much smaller power levels, too....I like them - kinda old school, but hey - so am I !

*DANG ! Just noticed the date of this thread ! LOL !!!

what does HENE stand for?

It stands for the gases that are in it, Helium and Neon. Although I have really no idea how they get color other than red from them.

Not more powerful, but they have incredible beam stats ! VERY stable, with 100% duty cycle as well. Plus, they just kinda look neat !
