Okay so i took a red laser Diode out of a 16X DVD burner, and according to wikipedia, consumer DVD burner diodes are rated at 250mW, so i that right and if it is, what kind of googles should i buy for that?

and what is the max output on 16X Diodes?

I might be wrong but I dont think you will get 250mw out of a 16x diode, and still have a good lifespan on it.
Either way just the plan old goggle for the 650nm wave length will do, Dragonlasers and wickedlasers have good goggles, senkat also sells wicked's goggles.

Experience shows that a 16X should be run at around 300mA. That will give you around 200mW

What kinda diode lifespan would running it at that result in?

I recently ran a harvested 16x and only ran it at 110ma and it was very stable over 120ma it was unstable. I just harvested a LOC and I run it at 350ma and it looks very much brighter. My next tool is a power meter!
