Was it a red plastic or water-clear red LED?

The only problem is every LED has it's own characteristics, just like each LD does, even when they come from the same batch. So to get anywhere close to a ballpark figure by calibrating with a meter, everyone would need to use the same LED, and even then YMMV.

I do find this interesting and plan to give it a try. There are some things I am curious about with the laser diodes from the GB. Mainly, the diode seems to put out more power when cooled with my peltier...I really want to confirm this.
