Hello LPF,

This is my first post on this site and i would like 2 say that im extremely grateful to all the random members who i leeched info from during the shopping/purchase of my first high powered laser. My Rayfoss 200 mW flx arrived in the mail a couple weeks ago along with the spare battery i ordered for it. Everything works great with the battery that came in the box however, the extra battery i ordered causes the laser to mode hop after a couple minutes. I've noticed that the extra battery is slightly shorter then the one packaged with the laser but has the exact same info on it. Is there anyway 2 easily remedy this situation or do i need another battery? I'm currently awaiting Faona's reply but wondering if anyone could shed some light on this? < no pun intended

does the laser take 1 or two batteries? i hope you don't mean after a couple minutes of on time it starts to mode hop. Because with that laser, you shouldn't leave it on for more than 1 minute at a time.

If they're protected cells, the difference could be the manufacturer could have swapped protection circuits at some point and either the new one, or old one, is thinner. That or one's protected and one isn't.

As far as mode hopping. That's just something your going to have to live with with non-stabilized DPSS lasers. Mode hopping is going to be highly temperature dependent, and the only real way to control it is to precisely control the temps of the crystal set and diode.

Do you have a DMM to see if the batteries are putting out different voltages?
I have had some lasers mode hop at 4.2v, but do fine at less than 3.7v.

Alright gents, faona told me that the shorter battery sounds unstable and that shes shipping me a new one, the laser mode hops if i quickly tap the button (i know that its not good to do this) but as long as i just press it and hold it the laser works great, and im convinced theres no power loss or anything. I think im addicted 2 lasers now after browsing this sight, gee thanks guys. Oh yea and id never hold the button down for longer then like 45 seconds> :)

As in my earlier post on the subject, ALL greens (and every other DPSS laser as well) are unstable when they first power on. The temperature has to stabilize before they'll 'calm down'
