Pulsed drives wanted

I know you sharp folks are indeed a great sort of "think tank" if you will... I need to make some new red lasers for medical tests and we would like to make a low level pulsed red laser to test for medical research. Ideally it would be best if we could pulse the laser at 1Hz to 5KHz but any pulsed driver would be a better test than no pulsed. So, if all we can do at first is fixed rate of pulses, I think 1.2KHz is a good starting point. The laser diodes I'll be using will be about 30 mW.
Also, I would ideally also like to have a line generator lens that would be rotated about 4 rpm so the light line would rotate over the area being illuminated. Anyone with abilities to help provide drivers and a mechanism for rotation of the line lens please PM me , Thanks! -Glenn

It would be good to know the duty cycle of these pulses. 50/50 or how many mS on per pulse.

Just throwing an idea out there... TTL drivers are quite cheap, if you already have an arduino floating around, just have it activate the TTL on the driver. Otherwise I'm sure you can make a small circuit using a 555 timer or something similar. The advantage of the arduino though, is you can change the pulse characteristics "on-the-fly".

The 555 timer can be connected for an almost exact 50% duty cycle. The data sheets show the configuration. You may need a switch to set several ranges from 1 Hz to 5 KHz. If you can't find the circuit, let me know.

Also, since pin 3 output is used for the timing cycle, I'd recommend using a transistor or Mosfet as a driver.

As long as you keep it under 100mW, you can use salvaged IR drivers from the pulsed leadlight pens.

IIRC they pulse around 5khz, and work with a 3.6v P/S or battery. The current is adjustable,
and im sure there is a way to change the pulse speed, though ive never tried it.

If you know anybody who has used the leadlights like 'themonk' and im sure many others, it would be a low cost route...

If you need a steady supply, try contacting z-bolt or wicked, not sure if wicked carries a pulsed greenie, but worth a shot.
