Here is a video of my prototype LPM

It is an Analog LPM, with some added features:

It can run off of nearly any power source,
as low as 2.5V and up to 9V (Designed for a single 18650)

LPM uses around 1/2 watt of electrical power so:
at 4V it consumes about 120mA
at 8V it consumes about 60mA

Has a ranging switch:
LO: 0.000W to 1.999W
HI: 0.00W to ~5.99W

(HI is not tested yet, but is expected to be around 5W)

Has 2 zero adjust pots, 1 internal, 1 external
The external adjust can adjust +- 10mW
The internal adjust can adjust +- 500mW (Users won't need to use this)

This LPM has a virtual negative rail, so it can be zero'ed after the heatsink has been warmed up by a high powered laser.

Response time is faster than the Alpha, LaserBee usb, and LaserBee analog
but not as fast as the Laserbee II or Laserbee 5W
around 30 Seconds.

I will be testing Linearity at different powers and wavelengths tomorrow when I get my Professional LPM.
I have high hopes :D

Did you just take the voltmeter panel & switch from mv to v :D it's pretty smart I wonder if it is still accurate in the voltage setting :beer:

Yep the switch changes the voltage divider on the Panel meter.
and yes it is accurate in both ranges. :D

I like the Hi/Lo switch. Keep us posted on updates. This is looking great so far.

I can vouch for the accuracy. It needs a little bit of tweaking, but I think this will be a solid LPM!
 
He didnt say its ~50 bucks?! prototype is the word..

If I sell these, they will definitly cost more than 50.
It costs more than that to make one.

Good tec's are quite expensive,
Despite the fact that you can get a 40x40mm (1600mm^2) tec for 10 bucks on ebay
You cant get 25 8x8mm (1600mm^2) tecs for 10bucks,
actually you cant even get them for 10 each :yabbmad:

I dont suppose it'll be a open source design , or any particulars of the findings be available to those interested in understanding the working of the lpm.. Unless you're thinking of launching a commercial lpm of some sort later on..
 
I have gone through several of these and other threads, but a viable candidate of diy lpm with accuracy of +/-10% is yet to be developed or should i suppose you got the key already.. Either way, I will congratulate you on making something better out of the existing diy lpm flop ideas..
I'm sure someone lazy enough will come up with the simplest way to measure the optical output as they say !! In the mean time im all ears with the updates!!

I thought it was like the 50$ mariomaster LPM, this has a much more advanced circuit with new features so it's definelty more then that,

Whatever he sells it for would be a good deal, it's a 5W + LPM :)

Great LPM. I've been planning DIYing a LPM using an arduino, Digital display, and Ophir head, but all the Ophir heads I found are $200+. We need to find a cheaper source. Would anybody be in for a GB?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think I have heard Laserbee say that the price is still around 200 each in bulk :undecided:
 
I think I remember reading that somewhere too :(

I would believe it too, I contaced Ophir about buying 1 and this was there response...
