PR1504 silicon diodes OK for testload?

Quick question, title says it all.
I want to make another testload and I'm all out of IN4XXX's.
On the other hand, I have plenty of PR1504 (and similar) diodes waiting
to be pulled from PC PSUs. From the datasheet it looks like almost the
same to me, maybe the voltage drop is a bit higher....:thinking:

So can I use those just fine?

Sure you can use the 54XX series of rectifier Diodes fdor a Test Load...
They are similar to the 1 Amp 1N40XX series but at 3 Amps..

Yeah I know, but those are too big to fit onto jib's nice little testload blank PCB.

I was asking specifically about PR15XX diode's, not 1NXXXX, cause they are the right size and I have plenty.
But thanks anyway.:)

LOL I just realized, those ARE 1N54's in the picture, he must've sent me a smaller version of this PCB.:D
EDIT:
I just realized, the 2nd, that if I file down those diode's pins diameter a little and put the standing in the air instead of
lying side by side, they might just fit!:D

If anyone can answer my original question though, please don't hesitate.:)

Looking at the data sheets, should work pretty much O.K. But, you might consider some testing,,,
1504 is a 50A diode with Vf= 1.2V @ 1.5A
540x is a 3A diode with Vf= 1.2V @ 3A
Our good ole standard, the 400x is a 1A diode with Vf= (approx.) 1.1 V @ 1A
Looks pretty close, but Vf does go up as I increases, (and I also rember reading that Dr Lava said, somewhere, that as you approach 1A, you should use the Red connection in the test load to set the current for Blues). It would appear that the Vf and delta Vf with delta I are close, but not exactly the same,,,, so,,,, if 540x's work in a high current setting, it would look like the 1504's are a close match. Trust, but verify (with DMM readings). Try it and let us know.

I just saw what I posted....
I must have had a dyslexic brain fart moment...
A 1504 is nowhere near a 5401..... :crackup:
123Splat is correct the main difference between the PR1504 and
the 1N400X is the forward voltage and max current..

PR1504 Vf=1.2
1N400X Vf=1.1

It should still work...

It seems that Si diodes' Vf increases with current. So,,,, if you are trying to set up a 405nm or a 445nm (or whatever they are...) for 1A or more, do you yse a six diode stack, or jump down to four diodes to maintain the correct Vf simulation? (I mean, did I recall correctly Dr. Lava's instruction to use thr Red LD Test Load?) Seems logical, on the surface, but don't the LD's Vf increase with current also (then again, they arent Si, but Galium....) My brain hurts....

no but you can ask him to get one made for you (board house)
but you will need to buy the part and assemble it yourself
