POLLS Minimum Time Limit

I have standard daytime work hours and usually come on
the Forum in the mornings...

Yesterday a Poll was started... and was closed and the
(I must say obvious) results were acted on by the Admin
before I saw it or could vote.
(not that it would have changed the results on that Poll).

We have members from all over the Globe and in all different
time zones...
To give all the LPF members at least a chance to vote I
would suggest that the MINIMUM time a Poll should be
open is at least 24 hours...

Better few days ..... not all the users are 24/7 on the PC too, and not all the days.

What about, say, at least 3 days ? (this also will prevent "poll cheating" ;))

If we put it at 24hrs and let every member know...
They will visit the Forum more often... :eg:

What do you mean by poll cheating ...

Yes, but not all can go online when they want ..... real life sometimes interfer a lot with our other interests ;)

What do you mean by poll cheating ...

Jerry

Just as example ..... i want to give the impression (to admin, mods or whatever you want) that a certain number of peoples want the same thing i want, and have some online friends that can vote ..... i choose, say, 6 hours in a timezone where i know few peoples are online (also better if a sunday or similar), advise via PM all the friends to vote in these 6 hours with my preferences, and open the poll in this time for just 6 hours ..... also admitting that some other peoples casually see it and vote the opposite, what do you think it can be the result ? :D

If the poll stay up for, say, at least 3 days, this is much more difficult to do.

I see what you meant...
That was one of my concerns as well about not putting a Minimum
time for a Poll to stay open...

It really doesn't matter which poll got me to open this thread...
I've thought about it from just before I was no longer allowed
to read the Forum....
But.................. yeah...:eg:

Do you want "Likes"?

Anyway, in less than an hour there were 8 negative votes from vets. On the other thread I opened there were a few more. There was not one positive. So it was kind of obvious where it was going. I'm sure Avery got a little frustrated also.

Plus its his forum, he can do whatever he wants. He asked for input, he got it, and made a decision. This was not a ban poll or any other major problem.

Yeah I understood that... as I stated in the 1st Post...
It was obvious what the results were going to be and I
would have voted the same anyway...
It just made me think of this idea I had previously...

On this Thread I'm referring to ANY poll opened in the future
should perhaps have a Minimum time it should stay open to get
a good cross section of the Global LPF Community by giving a
chance to those that want to vote but are not in the same time
zone.

I think we can all agree its obviously not a 100% democracy here. Close, but not quite there. I made the poll 10 days. Like I said I think Avery got a little frustrated, and nothing else.

I believe that Avery read the arguments against the "likes", was swayed by one or more of those arguments, and simply took unilateral action. The "poll"
simply placed the arguments in a single place for him ;)

"I" didn't even see it while it was open and I'm on ALL the time ;)

< note > I have no problem with the way it went down.

Peace,
dave

It was only open for an hour and a half.

I work fast.

I'm not complaining about the "Like" Poll...

I'm just saying that ANY poll should have a MINIMUM
time limit so that ALL LPF Members have at least a chance
to vote (if they want to) especially the one in different
time Zones...

It's not a big deal... I just thought the idea was sound...
since we don't all live in the same time zone.... and
some work day shifts ans some work night shifts...

I seem to be the only one that understands what
I'm trying to say..

C0ld... you don't need to reopen the Poll...
It was obvious that the grand majority of the
Members (including myself) did not require the
"like" addition to the Forum...

Your word is still final....

As I said a couple of time is this thread....
The "like" poll has nothing directly to do with
this thread...

I feel like I'm :banghead:
