Osram 3.8mm 405nm diodes from tech hood

Re: Osram 3.3mm 405nm diodes from tech hood

3.3mm? Typo for 3.8mm? :p

Re: Osram 3.3mm 405nm diodes from tech hood

It says 3.8mm in the description :p

Note that the 600 mW figure is for pulsed operation. The CW output is rated at 300 mW.

Guess lazeerer would be able to fully clarify here :)

Gonna send him this thread.

Hey Guys,

Slight Correction. My 405nm diodes are Not Pulled from the BDR-205 Sled or any sled. They are brand new diodes. The BDR ones 3.8mm are the Sony ones that are less powerful then the So6J.

In Smeerworst laser and DJNY i used the 405nm diodes i get.

All the 3.8mm ones on ebay by techood or whoever are Sony branded ones no mater what the tittle says.. Those are all your average "12x". They perform less then the 12x 5.6mm that DTR sells This is why he dint switch IIRC.

NOT all Sonys are Crap though. There is like 5 different 3.8mm Sony's available. If not more. But none are close in power and do the roll back like the ones i get. Iam not the only one that tested this.

Here was a little write up i did on mine that i have a long time ago:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/14x-blu-ray-burners-73191-7.html#post1147809

Me and DTR have been trying to get a stock of them for some time now but they are hard to get in bulk at a decent price..

I do though keep them in stock in Low QT because they are expensive.. So if anyone ever wants one shoot me a PM.

I have been selling them for $48 Pressed in a copper module with leads TESTED :) To hit at least >900mW with a G lens.:) Add $15 for a X-Boost with SS for months now.

I have 5 setup right now to go. and have more coming in later next week.

I wont say what others have said iam sure they will see this thread and post but for what i have to say is none performed like mine as far as them rolling back rather then poping and power.

What sucks is there Not branded. Well they are i just dont know what that are. We cant find any info on them. Only thing come sup is sony.! The look Exactly like the Sonys, similar X-Marks and everything but they are not the same.:(

Just like remember those 3.8mm red diodes i got.? They looks the same but they where totally different.:( Thats what sucks.

I say it sucks because only 1 supplier i know has them and i cant Price shop for you guys.:(

Check my Youtube Channel out too. I did several test videos.

But as for the OP. YES those are 3.3mm diodes. NOT 3.8mm. (IF THEY ARE INDEED THE 3.3mm ones and like said not a typo)

I would contact Techood first just to make sure if your interested in getting them.:)

I know the 3.3mm Ones exists. I have already played with them months back.

They are like a 8X diode. In other words they would do ~700mW-800mW (The 5 i tested) But they would only last a few runs in that range. They like ~ 500mW-600mW. (RAW POWER)

I dont think they are worth it but they are Very Cool to say . "Hey i got a 3.3mm diode"

The issue i found with the 3.3mm ones where they are very hard to press in straight. Very hard. Even with a Diode press tool. The Copper is just to soft and the diode is to small that any pressure difference from side to side maybe the module pocket had a bur or something would make the diode go off center. That is hard to correct. And the power is not the best.

Its a cool little diode though. 500mW-600mW is pretty crazy for 3.3mm.

I think i might of wrote numbers down in my notebook on them.Hmmm:thinking:

I do remember though it was something crazy like 560mA for ~700mW or something. Thats not so efficient.

Taking into account my 3.8mm diodes do ~ 900mW at 580mA.
&
So6J around that too just a little less.

Just to clarify. The 3.8mm diodes i sell are NOT 1W rated. I dont want anyone to think these are some super diodes or anything. They are rated a little higher then a 12x thats it.. That gives a slight increase in power. They are Single Mode too. So if your looking for a little more power these are it for now.

If your looking for Alot more power the MM Opnext ones are the way to go.:)

Further more if you want to get serious about the ones i sell and chill them to ~0C. You can break 1.2W:)

Turn your speakers down:

THe Ones JT sold where not the Opnext diodes. In his own words he said they are similar.

If you are looking for a 405nm diode that does over 1W "Hobby safely" then spend the 250$ on the Opnext diodes.

Those are rated for 500mW. So if we go by what we are seeing now with 12x diode you should see more then 1W.

But there Multi mode. That is a big downside. 405nm is not that visible. Pending how bad the beam is, it might not even look as bright as a single mode 12x... But thats just speculation.

I have not tested the Opnext diode out. Or do i plain to.

Personally i would rather do a dual with 2 single mode diodes running at 900mW. Bet ARG would be up for that.:p

You will get at least 1.5W out with a tight beam.:)

I love 405nm.

Edit:

Here is the final test i did on my 3.8mm diodes:
You can see the roll back and the MAX power i got.
I dont recommand going past 590mA. Usually you see ~900mW there +/-50mW

Oh Forgot to say if someone wants a 3.3mm one i can get them cheaper then Techood.:p Just PM me. I dont have any stock of them but i can have then in about 7 days.:)

How do I get on a waiting list for one of those diodes lazeerer? Who must I [insert sexual act here] to obtain one?

PM sent. Also sent on the other matter we have ;)

This forum will see something pretty neat in a week or so.

@Raffle, you know what I'm talking about. Plus I may or may not be grabbing some goodies from Thorlabs tonight

As far as the matter I have with Angelos, that's between him, you, and myself :p We still have to talk about a certain laser you talked to me about during my lunch break. *some sort of communication incoming*
