does that say $800 apiece for 7mw 405nm diodes?

I think we're still better off getting ps3 sleds. ;)

Where did you see that!?!

These look like our diodes

440 to 455nm? WTF? That's a deep blue color. I haven't found a price yet though.

It probably changes with the amount ordered. Rarely will a large wholesaler list prices. Order 1,000,000 pieces and you will probably get a better price than if you order 100 pieces. It's one of the reasons I was surprised when pseudolobster posted the amount above.

Where it says "Price Terms: FOB Canada USD <800" I'm guessing that means "Price is less than 800 US Dollars, includes shipping within Canada" (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just guessing)

It looks like they carry low powered violet diodes and high powered blue ones... the alibaba listing shows a price for their 406nm's, but what I'd be really interested in is the 445nm blue ones.. should be an interesting colour, plus they go as high as 500mW apparently...

from their site:

Product IDTop(°C) Po(mW) [ch955]p(nm) Iop(mA) FFH(°) FFV(°)
CS-D6-7-406-20 70 20 406 35 9.5 20
CS-D6-7-445-50 70 50 445 80 10 37
CS-D6-5-445-500 50 500 445 500 7 30

They are supposed to have a factory or at least a department in Canada.. I learned what these letter mean in college, but i forgot.

I've seen the mention of 500mW of 445nm on their page, but only the lower power ones have a datasheet. And a poor datasheet at that.

How the hell did they make a 500mW 445 diode?!? And why are there no powers in between? This is odd. Sharp is planning 300mW pulsed 405s for the year 2010. And 250mW pulsed for 2009. I wonder what the CW ratings for these will be. But 500mW seems just odd. And they recommend 445nm for Blue Ray drives. Would that even work?!?

500mW would probably be multimode. single mode diode powers dont reach as high.

I've sent them an email asking for clarification and pricing. I'll let you know what they say.

LOL! I did this late last night. Here are our emails.

Hello Lydia,

Thank you for replying to me so quickly. I do have a question. I am
just trying to avoid any misunderstanding. There are no decimal points
in the quoted prices. For example in your quote below, you write :

" 445-50mW: USD4830/ea for 10pcs "

The price quoted without a decimal point is very confusing.
Are the diodes forty eight dollars and thirty cents each ($48.30)?
Are the diodes Four hundred and eighty three dollars each ($483.00)?
Are the diodes Four thousand Eight Hundred and thirty dollars each
(4,830.00)?

I'm sorry for the confusion, but there are significant differences in price
with the placement of the decimal point.

I await your reply,

David Guin

Dear Dave,
Sample charge is more expensive.
445-50mW: USD4830/ea for 10pcs
means the diodes Four thousand Eight Hundred and thirty dollars each
(4,830.00)

*^_^*
Lydia

This is the text of my last email to them;

Thank you so much for your time and quick attention to this matter. Apparently I will need to continue harvesting these diodes from the game consoles and DVD recorders.

Peace,

I know I'm being picky, but $4,830.00 is a bit much for me for a diode.

Peace,
dave

I was looking at the website only, not the business reporting sheet. Sorry.

You're not just picky, you're selfish as well! You should buy one so that you could show us the beam shots.. I'm sure you have a car you can sell? ;)

Anyway, i just can't wait to hear your report on the PSX-BOY diodes. As soon as you say they are good, i'm buying..

The $800 FOB price was in the middle of the link you posted.. :) Just under the picture i think. But i didn't see it either until Pseudolobster mentioned it.

blow open one of ur greens and shine the 808nm diode against the wall, looking at it with a camera. you wont see the usual elliptic spot of dvd reds that can be focussed down to a submicron spot, even more so with bluray LDs.
In MM diodes there are a few maximums and minimums in the far field pattern and they cant be focussed to a dot, but rather to a line

They're in a post office less than 20 miles away today. Should be here tomorrow :)

Yeah, i've seen that, when i took appart my DX200. It projected a big flat bar. That would be impossible to collimate without a fast axis lens first.

And yet it still smoked a black floppy disk with very bad high loss collimation. That was a 0.5W diode.
