I have a metal lathe, so I decided to make a few lasers heat sinks. Here is one I just finished last night. It’s copper and has good mass to it. The host is an S2, and is really high quality, and the blue/grey color is amazing. The oclaro 700mW diode is driven by a survival laser driver with heat sink. It’s set to 1.1 amps. The lens is a 3 element. It requires one 18650 battery.

Update: it’s become pretty clear that there isn’t much interest in the Oclaro 700 diode. So how bout this. I’ll throw in the diode, module and lens for free, if you buy the host. I’m thinking about making a few extra heat sinks and put a few kits up for sale. Anyway.. I’m thinking of pricing them around $80 for a hot option, so I think that sounds like a pretty good deal for this complete laser.

$80 + $5 shipping.

Thanks,
Jon

Nice looking 638 build. Best wishes with your sale. Your heatsink looks great, to make your own heat sinks got to be great thing. Enjoy and :gj:

Thanks! Yes, it’s very nice! I originally bought it to make my own wedding band out of meteorite. Here are a couple rings I’ve made recently, if you’re in to that kind of thing :) the one with the turquoise inlay actually glows an aqua color in the dark.

What is that one with the green spot? Natural that way or? Looks natural, what makes it green, I mean, what kind of material is it?

Wedding bands made out of a meteorite. Seem that might be quite interesting  there might be a market for them, curious? Well you own the lathe so heat sinks, hosts are on the horizon. :)

That one is also made out of meteorite. The spot on its surface is an area of its natural surface crust that I intentionally kept. It went quite deep, so it was perfect to do an inlay. The green stuff is several malachite crystals that I inlayed with resin. They polished up great and look very natural.

Yes. They are very cool. The crystal structure you get after they’ve been etched is awesome, and when lined with carbon fiber, they are very light and comfortable to wear.

Absolutely. I’ve got the heat sink thing pretty much down, now it’s time to move on to a custom host or two! :)

Ok. Back on topic. I have adjusted the laser price, due to the non-desirable diode it’s built with.

Wow 80.00 plus 5.00 shipping that's dirt cheap. I've got a few reds so I don't happen to need it. But best wishes again, I'm betting at that price it won't last to long.

Ps, you might want to put your location in your signature. It might help with your sale, letting people know where it's coming from.

Yeah. I figure that price should move it out. It will give someone the opportunity to change out the diode to several different options for less than they could buy most kits for.

Thanks for the advice. I thought my location was in my profile. I’ve been a member of this site for years, so I figured it was all set up correctly.

Wow! Guess you have to give stuff away around here! How bout this. If someone pm’s me in the next 30 minutes, I’ll sell them this laser for $45! I’ll even include a Sony vtc5 battery.
I guess I’m better off making rings. Where are people going for their hosts and heatsinks? Or is this just a dying hobby?

Yep, things don't move fast here and if you lower the price once, they wait for more.

If it had a M-462 diode or a 7A75, heck even a 100mw 520 I would buy it, I'm just not a fan of that Oclaro 638

I PM'd him right after his post but no answer.

I’m responding now. I’ll ship it wherever, so it’s yours. I said I’ll do something, so I’ll do it.

I enjoy building lasers and I’ve made a few really cool custom things utilizing the 405 and 445 diodes the last couple days. Just need to figure out where to go to sell them for what they’re worth when I build extras :)
