Okay guys, i'm SO EXCITED! my 2 30mW modules are at the post office ready for pick-up

why am i excited? well my last DX 100mW laser pointer got seized by customs. :( lol

anyway,

What is the best Battery to use for the O-Like 30mW Green Laser Module?

3.0v .... is that a D battery? LOL thanks guys.

<3 cain :)

Well, you can use any combination of batteries to get 3V.
Alkalines, which are typical AA, AAA, C, D, etc. are 1.5V each. Alkalines can be used but the problem is that the module uses lots of power and will eat up the alkalines quickly, so they're not really recommended. If you want to use alkalines, you would need two in series, to make a total of 3V needed for the module.
You can also use NiMH, which are similar to Alkaline, but rechargeable. They are typically 1.3V each, so you would need 2 in series to get 2.6V. NiMH batteries seem to work better for green lasers so they are recommended.
Another option is to use lithium batteries. You can use lithium primary batteries, which are 3.0V. The good part is that you only need one battery, and they can be rechargeable. However you can only find them in certain sizes, such as CR2, and CR123.

I would recommend Lithium, but if you are not familiar with the battery then use NiMH. You can find them at almost any store as a "rechargeable battery," and are convenient as you can use them for other things too.

I could be wrong. but i think lithum primaries are not rechargable. just get regular lithium ions. are you trying to make a lab style or a pointer. use jimmys advice for pointer and a cool cheap way is to use the atx power supply from an old computer. they put out 3.3, 5, and 12vdc.

WooHoo! guys guys guys.... ive never seen a green laser in person before.... Melbourne Victoria = Foggy night.... this baby hits the damn stars !!! i LOVE o-like :) LOL definatly buying more hell yeah ! thanks susie :)

Hope you got a budget for Laser Safety Goggles....

I've driven Susie's Green Modules with 3.6volt rechargeables...

Look at that!! :D

Chipdouglas,
The ones they sell at stores (energizer, duracell) are not rechargeable. But you can easily get rechargeable ones online. For example, Susie's dilda laser comes with two 3.0V lithium batteries and a charger.

@Cainorox
Very nice! Glad to see you got it working :)

hey jimmy, i know that part. but i never seen rechargable batts that are named "lithium primary". The only 'lithium primaries' i have seen are not rechargeable. to my knowledge, there are different classes of lithium batteries.. but yes about lithium primaries coming in 3.6v. for a one cell battery. in a AA frame size

Your "wow" factor would be way bigger with something like 100mW :D

hehe... hallucynogenyc, i wish i had some money or a job! LOL

after i buy my first car, ill save for a more powerful one :)

So anyway i needed a new Case / Host. because my....

got my 30mW o-like module going in an old DX5 case that Jake21 sent me a long time ago :) I tried to make the push button work with it but while doing that the push button itself broke off, no worries though, soldered a wire between the connections and so its always on. This will work better anyways as this is going to be incorporated into a RGV scanner. had to superglue the module slightly past the front of the head of the DX5 pen for it to work and I super glued an Aixiz module focusing knob on the front as well so I can put a dust cap on it while not in use.

thx,
Kendall
