Hmm about 2 weeks ago I received a package from O-like in it were a 150mW Blu-ry pen and a 200mW transformable Greenie.

I used it 2x. I used the correct duty cycle and it seems like the optics are faulty. I have a laser beam being emitted off centre and it seem the laser is mode hopping. I get a tight beam and then it splits into a double dot (more like an 8) then it shifts back to centre.

Wow. $165 for this ?

Disappointed. It does burn, but I question the optics on this pointer. It sucks.

Mode hopping is not related to optics, it is an issue of main ND:YVO and KTP crystal assembly.

A bit misaligned, or a bit underpowered or anyhow not perfect crystal mounting will result in mode hopping.
Which should not happen with O-like's products....

actually to be more clear it seemed like there were 2 problems. One mode hopping 2 dots forming and the other is the patterning. This is most certainly optics. The main unfocussed beam is clear of patterning.

Sorry, don't know how to help ya.

Keep it at room temperature, use freshly charged batteries, don't let it overheat, let it properly warm up.

Not much else you can do about it. Sorry again :(

Write to Susie, explain the situation and I am sure she will replace the unit. YES, it's a pain to have to ship things back & forth, but for that price, I would make the effort.

this is rather strange, I think the dot problem is the battery. I just tried a RCR123A cell (4.2v) and it works flawlessly. Dot stays in a circle and doesn't move into the 8 pattern.

You know I think it might just be the current of the larger cell causing the problem!

Larger cell? What cell (type & voltage) would that be, exactly?

I've had bad batteries which couldn't supply enough power in the past but maybe in your case it's the opposite? Sorry, I have no electronics background, but I think that most of the drivers used are linear and not of the level (of quality & complexity) used by our own DIYers to power their 405 & 660 lasers... :-/

The problem is, that when a Crytal set is made for exact power, it will behave abnormally when pushed to higher, or under powered.

In the case of 18650, the driver maybe acting differently then with CR123, so it will supply more or less current than needed.

Basically all Nd:YVO and KTP crystals are made with some tolerance and usually this tolerance is within usage limits.
However such problems do happen.

If you ask Susie nicely, she will replace it surely.

They have the best customer service on this side of Venus.
