Long story short, just built my laser, was outside trying it, started to rain, hide it as quick as I could but I'm guessing some water went in?

Its really dim, its heating up real good but dim. $200 done or not?

I had just received my Ehgemus host from Chrisbee and now I messed the diode up... :tsk:

I would think it was something other than the rain unless it was raining really hard. I used to use a plastic storage container next to my chair as a table, it has an indentation in the lid, I had my lasers all out there and I knocked over a full glass of beer next to the lasers and the lasers were in a pool of beer. I was terrified as this was about $1000 of lasers, I dried them off and opened them up to check and let them sit a long time and fortunately there was no problem with any of them. Any electronics that gets wet don't turn it on until you know it's dry, but lasers in a flashlight style host shouldn't easily get water inside unless you drop it in a puddle or something.

I mean it wasn't heavy but was decent enough for me to put on my hood. It had to be the rain, it stopped working almost instantly. I put it in my jacket pocket, ran inside, turned it on and it was dim. I thought it was the batteries, charged them up, changed them. Same thing. I even dissembled the laser and re soldered it. Nothing. Guess I'll let it sit a bit and see.

What is the raw output like?
Can you take a pic of the raw output without the lens?
How many amps were you feeding it?
What kind of driver do you have?

4.5mA with SXD Driver from DTR. All I did was put the diode in the host heat sink, solder it, tape the wires and done. I don't have my thermal paste with me for the driver heat sink, so I limited my duty to like 2-5 seconds at the MOST.

Hmm, 30 mins maybe? I was in the forest walking with my friends and lighting it up here and there. Then it started to rain and when I lit it, it was dim.

Is that pic with no lens?

It must be recessed in the unit? It should make a big bar shape without the lens but it looks weak anyway.

Maybe your diode did not have good thermal contact, maybe it cooked, it looks weak like it got too hot and cooked.

How many amps were you driving it with?

May be something cooked onto diode window causing diode led but that roundish output is weird for that diode. It did have a bar output when it worked?

Take the lens out and take pic of output

Yes, without the lens. 2 x 18650 @ 2200mAh
It has a very weak bar with the lens on.

Yeah, looks like water on it but I don't know. With the lens, yes. it had a bar when I viewed it through my goggles. I didn't turn it on without the lens, so I don't know. It still has a bar with the lens on, but its very weak.
That is without the lens.

If water was on the lens it could have caused back reflection or heating, sounds like it's done, sorry for your loss

Two 18350's at 2200mAh is not a lot of battery, are they protected?

Can you power the driver with a bench supply, or use 2 x 18650 and use a wire to close the circuit.

Damn it. Well, I'm not worried about losing the diode. Just that its hard itself to get a damn laser through customs here but I trust DTR. I'll just order another.

GAH. No. I meant 2 x 18650. And I don't think so, they're from Survival.

What Red is saying is right. No 18350 is capable of 2200 mah to my knowlege, you need high quality batteries at that size/draw
