Noob needs help

I am trying to buy a driver for a 660nm diode. I would like to get it from a source in North America. Id like the laser output to be 300-400mw. Size is not important it will be in a 4x2x1 inch enclosure.
I have built the "classic LM317T driver" but Im not sure it works properly and do not want to fry my diode.
Any assistance would be very helpful! Thanks.

The LM317 is a decent driver. Why don't you go on that path.
First you want more info about the diode. From where did it came and guest the max power. Then set the driver according to the power.
By example a LPC-826 takes 400mA for 250mW output with a standard glass lens.
