Newbie-CNC diy laser

What is the best setup for a CNC laser? I understand some electronic lingo but I'm not great at it. So be nice and forgo the lingo please. I want the finest line I can get for burning wood not cutting.

Just burning wood huh? Lucky for you there are lots of cheap diodes out these days that will happily toast wood. Are you saying you are a newbie to lasers though or a newbie to the whole thing? not sure how easy putting together a CNC will be for a newbie.

I am taking on two projects at the same time. The CNC is my main project. I have bought the controller board, step motors, power supply and for the laser I have bought the controller from aixiz. I have a 22X dvd RW drive.
Yes I am a newbie to the CNC. I have plans for the CNC.
Today I'm going to hook up the step motors and controller to the puter and see if I can control them.
