Need some info before I make a mod

Ok so im planing to mod my 50mW green laser some time soon and I need some info from you guys to make sure I got this all right for my research.

#1:

Pot mod: Very simple, just turn a screw allmost all the way up and I can boost it by a good 10mW extra, pot mods are still limited by the resistor and cant boost your power more than that usualy, but that is also what makes it better because it wont run down your diode life by masive ammounts.

Is the text I just typed correct?

#2: To get even biger power you have to do a resistor mod by either replacing the current resistor on the circut board with something that will allow more power to flow or just heat it up with a sauter gun or BIC lighter to dissable it completly and you can get realy powerfull stuff, also combined with pot mod will make you get the most out of your laser but this stuff realy runs the diode life out.

But remember if you dissable the resistor without replacing it with one that will allow just a bit more power to flow throught but not a masive ammount yet unlike if you just dissabled it you take out the risk of instantly burning out your diode like you might when you do the Kipkay laser flashlight hack.

Is the text I just typed correct?

Ok so those are both my questions, they cover alot of stuff and I need sombody to anser theme completely jsut just bits and bites (altought it would still help).

IS THEIR NOT ANYBODY THAT CAN HELP ME?!?!

Sorry for that but I realy want to mod my laser and I waited half a day usualy I get a replie by then, im used to online computer forums with thousands of users so I get around 10 replies in 5 minutes normaly.

Anyway anybody can anser?
Usually there aren't many people on here around this time, wait a few hours and you will get more replies.

The mod depends on your laser, what type is it? If it is a 50mW it is most likely maxed as it is. Even if you up the power of the pump diode you won't get much increase in power because the crystals are probably already saturated.

Ok but how much mW are you talking about when you say that I wont get much of an upgrade, and is what I have stated about the resistors and pot mod true, its info I found on the net and I wanted to make sure its right before I do something. And are you talking about just a pot mod or resistor and/or pot mod.

And yes btw it is a Green laser 50mW.

I know it is 50mW but what is the brand? If you don't know where did you buy it from?

ebaylaser baby! Now before you go running your mouth on how bad they are, its not some cheep modified 5mW laser, the guy is a well known (one of the very few) genuine ebay laser dealer. He buys the cases and then inserts pre-made 50mW diodes and all the other stuff inside, also he does a bunch of other things and hence cuts down on cost by alot so he can sell for cheeper than big companies, now I know its still probably not as good quality as big name brands but its one hell of a good laser. Ive had this laser for a bit now and its still running fine and I just tested it with a laser power metter and it holds up to what its said to be capable of.

Most of the time doing a pot mod will kill the laser, awhile ago they used to be made of components not performing at there max (like leadlights) so they could be pot-modded and you could replace a resistor to increase the power of it, but now to make them cheaper they use components that are already maxed out so any further power would break it.

...lazer... ;D ;D ;D

Ok ok ok thats all nice realy and thats some good info but can sombody tell me if the stuff I said about pot mods and resistor mods are true?

If your laser is NewWish manufactured, none of the pot or resistor mods will work on your laser for any real up in output, the crystals are most likely already saturated, so all pot modding or resistor swapping would do is decrease the life of you diode, not give a boost in green output.

Does your laser have the same case as this? http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1371

Yes my case is exactly like that exept with a green sticker that says calls IIIb.

Read back through your posts you have written! No wonder no one wants to help you.You seem to have an attitude about something.

And could sombody just please verifie the information I found on the web and tell me if its right or rong or what parts are right/rong? That was my initial question. (Information is in my first post)
Those mods would probably work on the really old green lasers because they had bigger crystal sets, but I can almost guarantee you it will will not work on your NewWish laser, the crystals are already saturated to the limit. Just buy a bigger greenie from novalasers.com if you want a good greenie.

Ok then I wont mod my 50mW green that I have right now but I am planing to buy a Nova x125 in the next two weeks and I WILL be moding it.

I agree havent had much luck in turning up a newwish only once it did seem to help a whole bunch but is was not working correct from the start it was a 50 mW greeny that only put out 8 mW after i turned it up all the way it went to 25 mw remember it was supposed to be a 50 to begin with

X ---
The info you have relates to the old Leadlights from 2 years ago when they could be turned up. This was stated above. If you attempt a pot mod on the 50, watch the current and graph your mA vs PO. If you see that more mA gives no additional power --- stop. You are saturated.

Mike

Thank you! Anyway I dont have a power metter but my freind does, he lives a bit far away but il have the chance to test it out this weekend, hopefully.

Also if I did make a simple pot mod (NOT juice it all the way up by disable of the resistor) how much life would I be taking off my LD. (Obviously if they were not already maxed out parts)
