I've been trying to make some improvements for some nighttime beam shots lately. I've been able to use a shoe to position my laser, but the laser weighs so much that it always falls off position. Does anyone have any ideas for a makeshift laser stand? I have a few tripods, but none of them have anything that will allow hold a laser.

What type of laser do you have? Is it a pointer or a lab-type unit? If you have a pointer you could get a clamp (make sure you get one with rubber jaws or you will likely scratch the surface of the laser) and clamp it to a lamp post, table edge or something like that. If you have a lab laser or pointer that's too big to really clamp onto anything you might try getting a small mirror and bouncing the beam around to where you want it to go. Mirrors are usually easier to position and hold than the laser itself.
