Hey guys,

I've got a PHR-803T in an AixiZ module with acrylic lense (opening cut out) and I'm driving it with 110mA of current. I can't seem to 'burn through a black CD case' like those ppl can and posted their vids on Youtube. I wonder whether it's because I'm not driving it high enough? I obviously don't want to spend on a glass lens so is there a way to achieve this with what I have?

Thanks.

errmmm I just checked again, those guys are using the 8 x LD with G1 glass lense. sigh. no wonder I'm so far off the burning power.

Get the aixiz blu-ray coated glass lense its more cheap and work as good.
but ur should burn at 110ma, do you pin point focus?

mine is burning. but it doesn't punch a hole through black CD cases, like those vids on Youtube.

Just keep it still and let it eat its way through the case. The plastic likes to melt and run into the hole thus blocking it, so you have to wait for it to burn away that material aswell before you have an open hole.

I run mine at 110ma too.. it takes around 20-30 seconds for it to go through, but thats kinda boring.. so i kinda never tried it again. if yours is taking that long it should be running fine!

Really? my violets running at 125mA eat through it in under 5 secs, while my 150mA will do it in under 2 secs, its a monster! Just tried it right now and it blasted through it, and its using the stock plastic lens too.

what a huge difference, one of you running it at 100mA and the other at 125/150. mine instantly smokes the black plastic but I think the smoke's opaque and it blocks the beam after that. you're right I've not been holding it steady though. I'll crank the current up to 110mA and give it a go. Cheers.

Ok it does punch holes through. I wasn't keeping it steady at first that's why. It took only < 10 sec however my module was only about 4 inches away.

mine i have 2 br now, one pen from arenared (set at 120mA/Aixiz lens) one is my new build set at 110mA with (405nm lens)

the pen laser reads 110mW and burns cd cases in 10secs at pinpoint focus..

the other build i have, powered with flexdrive (3.7v cr123a) on a flashlight host... with heatsink... reads 130mW (additional power from the 405nm lens) burns cd cases in 4-5 secs..

ok mine was a good 10-15 cms, this could be a reason y it didnt eat through it so fast. also i believe the smoke is blocking it. ill try again with fresh batteries and report my findings

It was the thinner case style as all my standard size cases are molded out of clear plastic, and trying to burn through that wouldn't make to much sense :D
