Here are some pictures i took. The host isn't all that pretty. But it comes with the holster.....

It will be primarily a micro boost host since it won't house the entire aixiz module. 18650 compatibility has yet to be determined....
the clicky switch is on/off, no momentary available.
the heatsink is "roughly" 1.09" diameter and 0.57" long. I just made one out of a junked piece i had on the desk just to see what it's look like.

They aren't the coolest looking, but then again they are only going to cost about $15 for a host, heatsink, and holster......

either way, i've bought 90 of them so i have to do something with them lol

You know, if they are cheap I would try lightly turning just the knurling off. It might look cool as a silver/blue two tone.

I could get rid of the knurling, and sand the crap out of them. Wonder if i could get a pretty polished aluminum host!

But to do this to 90 of them. Hrm, you have any chinese people you can loan me?? I can meet you in Kansas city

Now i REALLY need a band saw. I think i would die if i tried to saw 90 pieces of 1-1/4" aluminum with a hack saw.

You just gotta back the carriage away and hold a scotchbrite pad or something up against the host, I do that all the time at work

It would be even better if you could get some caustic soda, you could drop those anodized parts in that stuff and it would strip that anodizing right off and leave a nice matte finish.

I polished one up.

This is kind of difficult to do... First off you can't tighten it down too hard or it will dent or bend, and because of this it makes it easy for the piece to catch and go flying across the room, leaving large cuts and dents.

I ruined one body, and got a nice gash in the tail cap on this one.

But i have to say, once completed they do look very pretty.

I'm just not sure what to charge for the polished. Luckily each unit ruined isn't really that much $$, but it probably takes about an hour to remove the knurling and anodizing.


Pontiac, Would powder paint stick to this host? Was thinking about jsut getting a bunch of different powder paints and painting them.

I'll also have to try that caustic soda.

I do have muratic (spelling) acid in the kitchen.....if that would work.

How bad does the one with the gashed tailcap look?

It's just a dent/scrape where the bit caught it and yanked it off the lathe.

You can see some of the blue still. The very bottom of the tail cap is stil blue too. I just wanted to get one done for the most part to get a visual on what'd it look like.

Not so bad. You should have no problem selling any of the defects that are like that for a little more than the standard blue to lessen the blow when you do make a mistake on one.

Matt did You try just using strips of Emory cloth held to the piece while turning on the Lathe? The Anodizing on cheapy flashlight is probably not that strong. Just a suggestion of what I would try. Heck even a pad of scotch bright might work.

Wow, huge improvement on the polished version. If you can find a faster way to do it (thus not taking the price too high), I would say you have a real winner.

It might still look cool without turning all the knurling off and polishing the rest. It would have blue crosshatching!

Much nicer than the standard finish either way. Nice one.

Well i know the wire brush on the bench grinder makes quick work of the anodized surface.
I've yet to see if it polishes up well.
I love how the heat sink and head blend in together.
