All are of my MOT being shorted, with 3 turns in the secondary. I get a huge amount of current and the wire I am using is pretty small!

I went out today and bought some 4 guage wire, wound the transformer with it, and shorted it with a screwdriver. The wire is rated for 110A, and it got hot, so this thing is doin some serious current! (200A and up I would imagine)

You are probably getting quite a lot of current from this thing. I made one of these using four turns of battery booster cable wire on a big MOT from a very old (1970's) MW. Using a clamp-on AC ammeter, I measured nearly 600A. I still have mine, in a project box with electrodes so I can spot-weld small thin stuff that's too small for my shop spotwelder. Nice spark pics !!!
 
Nice how you manage to weld that wire down and then it melts through again.

Pretty dangerous stuff to play with though, if you'd actualy short that secondary wire i think the whole thing might go up in flames - or the fuses blow, but dont rely on that ;)
 
Primary is wherever current is delivered from, so in this case i'd day the couple of loops of thick wire would be the secondary.
 
i rewound 2 MOTS secondrys and made a arc welder works quite well to i use the other mot i have with caps for pulling arcs , nice pics too

And he DID short the secondary. No explosions or blown fuses in sight. Shorting the primary, however, would likely yield one or both of these results.
 
That was cool in the video when the wire attached to the ground and started glowing red
 
Yeah, it catches quite easily once it's already hot.

The black wire is the secondary, yes, but I have since rewound it with 2 1/2 turns of 4guage.

It's hard to imagine this wire still gets hot!

The MOT is connected directly to the mains, but thru many power boards, which have circuit breakers in them. Havent managed to blow any fuses or breakers yet, though I got countless pieces of copper wire under my fingernails when I was removing the secondary!

Nice! I've made something similar with 20V and big capacitors but I can't find any pics of it :( But I have something else, with MOTs :D
