This is my newest laserdiode. It is the Mitsubishi 638nm 300mW laser diode.
With a 405-G-2 lens and 965mA current it burn thought the case in few seconds.

The 445nm hotlight is set at 1350mA.

Dot comparison 638nm vs 445nm diode at 10 meter.

What did you run the 638nm diode at?

The 638nm diode was run at 965mA. According to the review it was close to the maximum output.

That is quite a bit of current consumption for a red diode!
However upon further reading it's a multimode diode. This makes a huge difference!
Peak output is just shy of 500mW at 1A !

I already got a glass for 445nm color but I am looking for a 635-650nm glass. This 638nm is bright, a glass is much needed.

500mW at 1A is done with a normal Aixiz glass. According to DTR a G1/G2 glass add another 30% increase in power. The power is close to 650mW of red power.
