I bought a mutimeter from Harbor Freight, this one

7 Function Multimeter

and it worked fine, but for one thing; the contacts one the leads seemed to have a problem getting good contact.
They are chrome plated and I thought maybe that had something to do with it. So I took some 180 grit emery and removed the plating. the probes are brass and this fixed the problem, and reduced the resistance of the leads by three tenths of an ohm.
Thanks for reading. Ed

Nice easy fix... :gj:

You were lucky that the base metal was Brass and
not some cheap tin/steel. That may have made the
connections worse over time when the surface had
oxidized.

I knew that chance was there, but I've found this type of thing is most often brass, so I went for it.
If it was steel I would just have to clean it. I was worried it would be stainless steel and would have no effect.
