I quote:

"I have written to police ministers calling on them to put in place legislation which imposes fines and jail terms for possessing pointers above one megawatt without an appropriate exemption," Mr Debus said.

So, I've just got to be careful with my >1 MEGA watt laser pointers, and I'll be okay ;D

As long as you vaporize people with 900kW pointers, you're legal. :D

That would seriously be hilarious if they did draft legislation for that specification.

I don't think it's even a typo.

They are quoting what someone said. I reckon that guy ACTUALLY said that! :D

1 Mega Watt ;D

" Early this morning there was a bank robbery, when 3 youths cut through the bank walls with laser pointers, its said that these youths plan to target plains next with their 1 Mega watt laser pointers. "

If anyone from the media reads this :

YOU CANNOT CUT DOWN WALLS WITH A LASER POINTER, LET ALONE ANY OTHER LASER ( EXCEPT MILITARY OF COURSE ) I WAS MAKING A JOKE !

A flop how? As in they won't enforce it... or as in the ban will get lifted, or what?
as in the ban is going to be completely ineffective at stopping laser attacks and it is a poorly thought out piece of legislation with a ton of loopholes and exploits. Overall it is going to fail.......badly

In general, bans on products people want tend to fail. It always was and will always be possible to get your hands on stuff you aren't supposed to have according to your government. And this ban is likely to be very ineffective and can be considered to be a symbolic political act. What is the real threat here? What is the chance you'll ever get caught unless you shine your RPL around on the street/airport like a madman? How easy is it to bypass the ban? How much priority will the police give to "arresting laser terrorists"? Exactly.

Well I think it will blow over within 6-12 months maybe a bit longer, hopefully anyway, we will just need to wait and see.
