Well, the only thing that I can say about the big bang is that modern physicists STILL don't even know how gravity works. There's a LOT to learn about our universe still, and physics is going to be turned on it's head when it does happen.

To me, it would take just as much faith to believe that is an accurate explanation, as it would be to believe in God.

Read more than the first sentence of the article next time. There's plenty of evidence for it.

I believe in it because I feel deep down inside that it is right.

You and all the other religions. If "I feel deep down that it is right" was any sort of proof, it is refuted by the rest of the planet that feels the same way about their point of view.

it's so popular to make jabs at religion that some people I think just go with their peers and don't put any thought or feeling into it.

Perhaps in some cases, but that is more the case of religion than it is of atheism. You have your religion because your parents had it. That's pretty much the only reason.

I believe that I will answer to God for my actions when I die, there is no question in my mind. It's not about proof. If i had proof, it wouldn't require faith to believe in it. To me, the world as it is in proof enough. How can one think the universe was spontaneously created on its own? Don't you think something had to provoke or engage universe creation? If it was spontaneously created, why did it happen at when it did, and not X years prior? I don't see the logic in how the universe co

Since I'm NOT an expert on Big Bang theory (the "prevailing cosmological model that explains the early development of the Universe"), I headed over to Wiki to read a word for word explanation.

From Wikipedia: Big Bang - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"According to the Big Bang theory, the Universe was once in an extremely hot and dense state which expanded rapidly. This rapid expansion caused the young Universe to cool and resulted in its present continuously expanding state. According to the most recent measurements and observations, this original state existed approximately 13.7 billion years ago,[2][3] which is considered the age of the Universe and the time the Big Bang occurred.[4][5]"

But, how did this "extremely hot and dense state" universe come into existence? How long did it exist? Why did it exist X years before it began to expand, and not less/more? To me, it would take just as much faith to believe that is an accurate explanation, as it would be to believe in God.

But I digress. I don't feel I need to to defend my religion, as whatever everyone else believes doesn't weigh in to my belief. I believe in it because I feel deep down inside that it is right. You can think/believe whatever you like.

I just wish everyone would try seek the answers for themselves. In today's world, it's so popular to make jabs at religion that some people I think just go with their peers and don't put any thought or feeling into it.

There is one thing that we can all agree on for fact - you will die one day. Be sure you're absolutely ready.

Here ya go.

One good myth deserves another

Choose any one and run with it

Creation Stories

Based on just this one list of other myths, when you die, it looks like you are going to have about 5% chance that you guessed right. Add to this the knowledge that there are still other myths that are not included in this list, I would say that you odds of being "right" at death are pretty slim.

Peace,
dave

daguin,
It looks like you are working towards Pascal's wager.
The idea is that since hell is eternal it is a good bet to worship on the chance that god is real.

I strongly suspect it was meant as a joke, as Odin* is not likely to be impressed by any ones christian prayers. :)

*Or Jupiter, Zeus, Ball, or any of those 30.000+ christian denominations just in the US, many of them mutually exclusive.

@ xoul: about big bang and the dense state ..... one of the theories is that, after a certain amount of time, the universe stop to expand, then start to collapse again (cyclic universe, or "closed" universe, theory ..... but don't run, it may require some more billions of years :p), so the previous "high density" state of the universe CAN BE (no proofs, ofcourse) the result of the collapse in the previous cycle (and this made the 13 billions years the age of THIS specific universe only, BTW).

@Toke: :D Pascal's bet can be interpreted also in the opposite direction, you know ? :p ..... "If i say that God does not exist, and act for all my life in accord with this idea (taking all the fun and advantages that i can, regardless any other being existence), and then it happens that God exist, i can always repent before my dead, asking them (just as extra safety :p) for "Plenary Indulgence" (usually given in change of some "donation" to the church :p), and get the same the paradise at the end ..... but, if i say God exist, and act like a "puritane" or fanatic religious for all my life (no fun, no money, nothing for myself, all only in the name of the religion, and so on), and then it happens at the end that God does not exist, i lost an entire life of fun and happyness in change of nothing" ..... (uhm, wondering why the churches does not publicizes also this version ..... :eg: :eg: :eg:)

The creative days where not days as man measures them, the bible clearly states that a day is as a thousand years to god, so each creative day was one thousand years.
The next argument is that the earth still couldnt be created in 6 thousand years, not by itself it couldnt .
The amount of derision aimed at believers is astonishing.

Science is indeed a god to some , and yet mankind feels so superior and arrogant when the truth is we can barely survive.

Dont believe , thats fine, cling to your beliefs and despise God because the bible says something you disagree with.
Let me know how that works out for ya.

Talk about religion? The one pictured before was responsible for mass murder much like another growing one today, they just didnt use airliners , but its not pc to state facts.

Fact is, anyone who hates the bible or god is either selfish or blames a god instead of an organization.

Let me dissect this real quick...

First, that's not a fact, it's an opinion (and an arrogant one at that).
Second, I don't hate the bible. Why would I hate a book? It's just a book, nothing more.
Lastly, how can someone hate something they don't believe exists? Selfish...pfffft

What I do hate however, is people like you thinking your beliefs are absolute and trying to act superior to people who believe differently or don't believe at all.

Darth Vader is real that's a fact because it was written in a book and I have seen him in a movie.

My point, just because it is written in a book does not make it a fact. There needs to be proof to back it up, not just hear say.

I get called god every time I have sex with my girlfriend, does that make me god? I think not, but I am a fact because I do exist (I think).

Love it!
If anybodys trolling it isnt me,,,,ive even did my best to leave the catholic church alone, which isnt easy,
I think you are trolling and you don't even know it.:undecided:

Question: Do you think we (Humans) are the only [intelligent] life in the Universe?
Again why is it, if a atheist shows up hes treated with respect and reason, if a believer shows up, hes ridiculed? One of us is doing something wrong inside.

Im wondering if you could answer that question .
Most here base their conclusions about "the world" on independently verifiable "facts".
You may claim that your belief in God is based on "facts", but your "facts" came from a book that is purported to be the "word" of an invisible caretaker. (and stories your parents told you)
@ xoul: about big bang and the dense state ..... one of the theories is that, after a certain amount of time, the universe stop to expand, then start to collapse again (cyclic universe, or "closed" universe, theory .

Yes, I believe the cycle repeats and some scientists believe that a collapse/expansion has happened before.
Fact is, anyone who hates the bible or god is either selfish or blames a god instead of an organization.
Not sure why you think Atheists hate God or the Bible.

Here's two different scenarios:

Scenario 1: A person posts on here and says something like "I am Catholic". If anyone questions him, he says something along the lines of "I am Catholic and that's how I choose to live my life"

Scenario 2: A person posts on here after reading some of the posts and starts getting defensive and says things like Atheists are selfish and that the bible is fact and everyone is ignorant for not seeing it. The person gets told off for being asinine, and continues to run his mouth.

In the first scenario, there is no problem. In the second, obviously there is a problem.
