What I'm looking for a DIY Red, preferably metered and heat sinked fairly well. Over 150mW, clicky on/off, focusable is a plus but not required. I would like something that's relatively compact, and in a black metal housing if possible. Pics/Vids are appreciated.

just so you know, typically reds are around 1 dollar per miliwatt, usually a little less, so 80 for above a 150mw laser is going to be difficult to find.

not true. there was one guy on here who sold 150mW lasers in flashlight housings for $63 shipped.

I could custom make you a 250mW MXDL laser, like the one:

MXDL: $12
Heatsink: $23
Open can diode: $27
Driver: $10
Labor: $10

total: $82

it would run on CR123's. you can get them cheap from dealextreme.com

non-rechargeable: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5639
rechargeable: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3273

OR

you could go with this:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11315

EVEN THOUGH ITS ADVERTISED AT 200mW, ITS ONLY 145mW!!

so, those are some options.

that's why I said typically, and most people who build lasers like to make a profit, so if you only charge for the components its a lot less.

That $82 is a great deal. I'm waiting on a check from PayPal, so once I receive that I'll be more prepared to purchase a laser.
