Looking for high output driver (23V, 3A)

I know most of you specialize in smaller drivers, but I was just seeing if anybody knew of a boost driver IC that can do 3 amps at 23V? Input is 11.7V (3x 26650)

I'll be using it for my 7x XM-L T6 flashlight :)

Re: Looking for VERY HIGH output driver (23V, 3A)

Most laser drivers arent too good for flashlights and vice versa. Check out DX, they should have some flashlight drivers there on the cheap. Around here we usually dont go over 2A at 7.4V for the output on drivers.

Yeah I kinda figured as much, but it doesn't hurt to ask right? :)

I have a driver on the way from KD, but it's way too huge so I'm just seeing if I can find/build something smaller.

make sure you get some good heat sinking. That sucker is going to get HOT.

Haha oh yeah!
Even at 40W I can only run it for ten minutes before I can't hold it any more. :p

You should be looking at driver circuits that use external power transistors (fets, ect) and diodes at this power level. You're looking at 10 amp+ switching transistors here, there are few if any integrated circuits with those on board.

Okay I'm back. Killed my driver that barely fit in the space. (20 bucks down the drain)

Who knows of a 23V 3A boost driver? Input is three Li-Ion cells.
While I could probably make one myself, I'd rather save myself the headache.

I would check out taskled.com... they have a wide selection of very high quality drivers... some of em especially the Flex can be a bit expensive, but are LOADED with options, and from what I remember can take upto 25Vin and have a drop of about 1V for the driver.

Oh snap, the b3flex is perfect! 23V, 3A out! And up to 25V input...

EDIT: Nevermind... it's a buck converter. Gotta have a greater input than output :(

No boost driver that powerful.

If you're going to be driving 23V at 3A... that'll be a 6A+ draw on your cells, just make sure your switch and cells can handle the draw.

Yes they can. I've already run it at that output. It drew 8amps at the tail cap. :D

Eeeemmm... Yeah, you're going to have some interesting time finding an IC that can do that much in that small of a space.

You could possibly look at Texas Instruments power modules. I don't know how well they'll perform (if they're even boosters at all!) but it's something to check out.

I found a TI IC that will work. And it uses a fairly high frequency which means I can use a smaller inductor!
