Hey guys, BlueFusion and I decided to have a little "competition" to build a laser turret from lego. He is using the NXT set, and I am using the RCX 2.0 set (With missing peices :( ).

I have finished mine, and it has a few stability probs, but it works pretty damn well considering it's lego. Either he or I will post BlueFusion's result.

Looks like it's about to tip over, but that's just the camera angle :p

Cheers,
Dan :)

Very nice. Be careful you may cause dead screen pixels...
Is it programmed to turn randomly or can you control it from a certain distance with another RCX ? Anyway RIS 2.0 wins as I find it more flexible than NXT.

wow very nice Things! I wonder if I can build something similar to this using my old lego stuff.

Thanks :)

I also find the RCX easier to work with. In the vid, I was controlling it live via the computer, though it can be programmed, and I guess you could control it from another RCX using the IR messages.

I am currently swapping the pointer out with a "70mW" red DX module, meaning I can reduce the size, and also turn the laser on and off (maybe even fade!) it with the other motor output of the RCX.

The new head so far :D

EDIT:

Finished! Now I just need to find a cutup RCX connector cable to hook the laser up to.

Alot more stable now. :D :D

yeah I've got the NXT too and this is an GODLIKE idea  so I'll try it as soon as possible :D

A new contender has arrived... [/threadjack]

Too bad I used all my batteries for lasers. And if it wasn't enough my USB tower doesn't work so I can't program it.

Cool! It's amazing how much easier it is to do this with the NXT, and it'd also be more accurate since the motors are pretty much servo's.

I've got the RCX one working pretty damn well though ... well, apart from the USB tower drivers just crashed, and I can't be bothered restarting :p
