working on a little project. i got the idea from a youtube video YouTube - DIY Laser Show: Laser linked Ipod.
still just getting everything together. I still need a solar cell. i know this is a laser forum :p but would anyone know if it makes a difference what the output is on the solar cell?

It shouldn't. But keep in mind, this will only work with with simple low power laser pointers. Anything with a real driver is going to filter out the voltage differences the transformer is adding.

The one in the video works only because the laser probably only has a current limiting resistor instead of an actual driver.. fairly common for ultra cheap red pointers.

If you want to do something similar with a high powered laser, you need a driver that supports analog modulation. Then you just put the transformer in line with the voltage source driving the modulation input and the result would be the same. Since your dealing with an audio signal, which is AC, You probably don't want the modulation input at more than 4v though, to leave some overhead for the top half of the sine wave in your signal.
