Hey guys!

Just wanted to show some photos of my 40W CO2!

First I must say thanks to mariomaster, cyparagon, things, and bluefusion for all the help. I would still be fiddling with wires on the control panel without them.

Now that I thanked the proper people. Heres some photos! I will be doing some videos when I get my tripod, proper ventilation and possibly when I have my mount finished. I have plans to make this a proper centerpiece in my room after I move.

Sorry the images are blurry. I cant hold the camera still and operate the laser at the same time. Plus this camera HATES low light. I will add more photos later!

Thanks for looking! Stay tuned! :pop:

Very nice!!
I'v been eyeing a 40W+PSU on fleebay for a bit now. Sure seems tempting compared to my other...'over my head projects'....
I'll keep an eye on this thread. Perhaps you would be willing to share the pearls of wisdom that you have received.
I personally would be interested in some more photo's of the connection wires and such between the tube and PSU. Also any problems that you ran into while hooking it up.(it's just better to ask here than bother them again).

Congrats on your new gas laser there! I still love the excited tube look.:D

The wiring was easy. Well not so much... I don't understand diagrams yet so I begged some people above to be more less *spoon feed* for say. Once I had the information I needed and the supplies then hooking it all up was a piece of cake!

The terminal has screws that tighten on to the exposed wires and there was minimal soldering. I still have yet to enclose my components into a small project box and I plan to add a Emergency Stop switch to the terminal (as suggested by bluefusion.

My water lines were too small and did not fit over the glass tube connections but the inner diameter was the right size. I then had to make them work. I used heat shrink tubing but it was still too small so I stretched it out a little and it was REALLY tight but it worked.

After that I had to modify the pump with some hot glue to accept the tubes and I had to figure out which was better. Pushing the water through the tube or pulling it through. There ARE some small leaks in the tubing which i have to fix but they are so minimal (1 drop every 10 minutes or so) I have not bothered with it until I tested the tube.

There is a diagram in the link below that explains everything you will need for those cheap chinese PSU's. http://www.jinlantrade.com/eBay/40W Laser Power Supply/Manual.pdf

Be careful though... One problem I do have is the PSU is making hissing/screeching noises which I am assuming are HV sounds because they change when I have the current set too high or low. So you will have to find the sweet spot on the 5k variable resister.

I think thats about all. I will PM or maybe post my wiring I did another day.

Thanks!
Jeff

Thanks for the explanation....I'm uneducated when it comes to electronics schematics and am still on the large learning curve.
When i'm ready to hook one up i'll shoot you a PM. When you do get a chance, more photo's, for a person like me at least, would be of great help in future builds.

An old iPhone 3g you say? I have an old Nokia camera/flip phone that could die :)

Maybe I will make the iPhone suffer but I dunno!

It is a nice tube! I will have ALOT of fun with it. I want to make sure you all can enjoy it too!

I have some polycarbon safety glasses. (yes they are regular safety glasses for impact protection.) They absorb 10600 very well since most clear materials including glass are opaque to the wavelength. They are only good for reflections though since 40W would incinerate them in a second or two of direct exposure.

To give you guys a good idea how dangerous this thing really is... Just indirect exposure while burning stuff with bare hands is enough to burn your skin!
