I would like to use this battery due to its extra small size for my lpc-815 build.

I guess its a two part question
Will it work at all?
If it does any guesses on the expected life span?

So went down to the store and grabbed one. Wired it up quick and it worked great! but... after about 5mins of use it seams to have already run out of juice... does that seem right? Im about to hook up the second one to see if I can get different results

The A23 is only a 50-60mAh battery. With an LPC pulling 420mA, 55mAh doesn't last long.

ah... got it. Any suggestions for a battery of similar size?
how about a 10180 3.7v?

The 10180 is better, but you are still not going to get much life out of it

JFrost;

Step up to at least a #14500 (AA sized) lithium-ion battery.

Any less and you will tire of changing batteries, if you intend to use the laser.

So if a 100mAh battery is used with a 100ma laser would that battery last 1 hour?

Nope, that's until the battery gets empty. Your build will stop working far from that.

Capacity=size (as a general rule)
