I've paid $285 for a Blu-Ray burner, ripped two diodes and a motor out of it, and thrown the rest in the trash ;)

I know

I'm going to recycler's hell.

Peace,
dave

I could never bring myself to do stuff like that :D My red laser is from a non functional drive. The bluray is ordered already extracted and I made my own cases.I just don't have the heart to destroy something functional ;D

Then again , maybe it's because I don't have a lot of money. :-/ $30 is pretty much for me.Let's see what you can buy with $30 around here: 13 packs of cigaretes(20pack) or 15 bottles of coke (2l) or 3 large pizzas (1kg) or 10 packs of condoms(3 pieces) etc. :D

Yea that too. :D But still , a $700 monthly paycheck is considered decent around here, so a $295 investment for a diode that may just die from static or in the extraction process would be a pretty high one.All of my lasers cost less than 1 third of that ;D ( yea, I tried to keep'em cheap, and one of each color, no yellow or blue for me though...)

That's crazy cheap, here I could only get maybe 5 or 6 for that much!! That's tax I guess.
Anyway yer the destroying good things used to bother me as well, but now I'm...acustomed to it I guess. At first it was like, this is a bright torch and so I would keep it for a bit. Now when I get that sorta stuff I gut it as soon as I get it :p

And many people get stuck in casinos dumping money in machines and on the tables for the chance that they could walk away with more then what they're dumping, driven by greed hoping that their money will multiply like a uncontrollable virus and for the cost of a cheap thrill!  And some do leave with more, many leave with less, but it was all in fun.

$30 is allot of money, depending on what it's for right?  Like how about $30 for a 300mW RPL? Yeah, that's dirt cheap.  Or how about $30 for a bowl of cereal?  Well, I guess it would depend on how hungry you are then huh!  ;D

I find it strange that the people in power of this world let it turn to shit when there are many more productive and "green" ways of living in the same method of life style, only better quality.  I just don't care anymore about my trash, it isn't hazardous waste, and by discarding an entire dvd drive just for the sake of the diode (and maybe some optics and ir low powered ld) I feel no remorse throwing it away.  Because of the way of the world, and the inhibitions placed upon us all because of laws and dictatorship, I could give a rat's ass about throwing away perfectly good bran new electronic components myself.  I care more about throwing away food, that I avoid at all costs.  ;D

I generally don't throw away things like that. I took apart my PHR drive, I think I'll just keep a bunch of random electronic parts that I will never use because I already have a lot of that stuff and just because I can. You know what you could do, though? You could put emptied sleds up for sale really cheap here, or maybe free if they pay for shipping. Somebody might be interested, and that way you don't have to waste anything.

I don't like to waste things when I can avoid it. Especially recyclable things. That drives me over the edge when people throw away recyclables. It's not like it's all that hard to recycle that can or bottle, and it makes a huge difference. (recycling 1 aluminum can saves enough energy to power a computer for 3 hours.)

I bought one of those "9 led flashlights" from dx that i see used in blu ray builds, and liked the light so much I ordered a second so I'd have one to use.

The 9-LED flashlights are nice, to someone who doesn't know about/have many flashlights. If you tried a Q5 w/ 2xRCR's you'd never go back to 5mm again.
