I can do small too!: DIY small non-axis red laser

I know its nothing mind blowing but just to prove to those out there who though I could only do massive lasers here is my reply :

Its water resistant (for bath/ outdoor use) not like the green one which is dive proof.

Its a non axis case that with all the internals being padded means it should stand up to a beating

(its essentially a piece of 'chrome' plated steel pipe with threads)

both features making it my second 'all terrain' laser.

Twist on/ off with slightly visible beam at night which makes me think ~7-10mW?


oh yeah whilst it isn't that big its heavy case is 'chrome' plated steel ;D and is 1mm thick

oh diode came from some massive DX new wish sized pen from ebay. focusing stuff from a dead DX laser (where I nicked the cap from (had to waterproof it))- custom made twist switch, O rings and cap from DIY store.

the switch is hard to photograph as its all sealed up :-[

ill try to photograph it now...

EDIT: It cant be photographed- its all hidden and only works when assembled...

Ill explain:

the diode & module are connected to the knob cap at the end- as you rotate the knob the module inside rotates too along a (like a thread) track inside the casing and when it reaches a certain point it makes an electrical contact with a point on the inside of the casing (following me lol?). This turns on the laser

by twisting in the opposite direction you switch it off and twisting it some more un does the waterproof cap for lens focusing/ cleaning

it's either 635nm or really high powered cause it's hard to see my diy high powered red in total darkness with no smoke at all

paper183 - Unless the laser is pointing at him, if the laser is pointing at you it's a lot easier to see the beam, you can see the beam of a 5mW red this way, it's really dim but you can see it.

Tried with an aixiz 5mw module and couldn't see but i have no way to test the power and i guess it may vary from a person to another...

I don't know, I guess it does depend on the person.
This was discussed when someone made a thread asking why he could see the beam of his 5mW red laser when it bounced off a mirror. Then people answered it was because the beam was coming towards him.

Paper183, go into a dark room and let your eyes adjust to the dark, then turn on the 5mW module and point it towards you, you should be able to pick out the beam pretty easily.

Yeah that's pretty much what i tried and the only way i can see my diy's beam... i guess everyones eyes aren't the same.
