Hi LPF members,
I like to share another pen build but with a newer and available host. It's a Husky Led pen light so we now have a dependable in store stock of this unit.

In it is;;
1) Husky Led pen
2) Xdrive set to 900mW's
3) G2 lens
4) 2-Efest 10440 cells
And now for some pics folks !! Hope you like it...

Hi Sta,
Yes 638nm is bright you can run them with one or two with ion cells with an Xdrive driver.

HiBBB,
Thanks for looking buddy sorry you killed that diode i don''t use the drivers in the pens i buy, most are made fore 1.5v cells and don't trust them. This husky pen is nice every thing screws out nice and clean no glue here .. I just built a 520 Defiant to but those hosts are no longer available . But these hosts are nice to build with very forgiving.

Looking good. I figured you would be building one of these soon:) I have a bunch of them sitting at the moment awaiting my attention.
There's another one they have that is $10 that I haven't checked out yet to see if it will work. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Defiant or a Husky. Next time I'm there I'll pick one up or you could do it so we could find out.
Gotta spread the love....

I bought one this morning but haven't tried to take it apart. I can't see a seem and don't know if it is screw or glued or press fit from the battery end or what. I will say that it is the nicest perfectly round spot I've ever seen in a pen light. It really is an inspection light. Don't mind spending the $ to keep it as a light to be honest. If it doesn't come apart easy I'm going to leave it alone.
Also managed to buy 2 of these for a total of $15.06 together. Last 2 they had:
Rayovac 3D LED Indestructible Lantern with Battery DIY3DLN-B at The Home Depot - Mobile
Highly rated and originally $30 each. Tried them out and they are much brighter than a couple others I have. If they had any left I would buy a few to give away at that price.

Here's that pen at Amazon. You can see what I mean by the spot in the third pic:

I bought one of these and after taking it apart I can say these are probably a great host for laser projects. Plenty of room to put in a module and it has the spring board you need.

Hi Raz,
Yes Husky has no glue all threaded. i use the plastic threaded retaining washer to hold down the driver and module and the hole in the middle of the washer is great for isolating the Pos+ spring in one position . It's a hit. Now we have to give them a paint job,..

I'll have one bead blasted and coated by next week from an anonymous friend but I have 2 black ones also. I have a few diodes and drivers but have had no motivation to build lately. Good to know not to bother with that pen although I love the nice spot so I'm going to keep it.
Oh yeah, I also get a 10% military discount on top of the prices so I really make out. Think they have a couple of the other Husky ones left at a register but I would like to find another new one now that I have 3 of those. Need to look in Lowes, Walmart and Target besides for random auto parts stores.
Those lanterns tested out quite nice if power goes off.
They have some nice AA solid looking Husky ones also in the clearance section but I don't want anything I need a custom heatsink made for right now.
